If you leave your kitchen window open, you must expect to have encounters like this every so often. Maybe next time you buy Tupperware, you should check the label to make sure the seal is squirrel-resistant. -via Arbroath

Chef Alain Roby stands in front of a replica he made of his kitchen, built entirely out of chocolate and sugar, in Geneva. (Keri Wiginton, Chicago Tribune / March 2, 2011)
Geneva chef Alain Roby once built a 20 foot high chocolate skyscraper. He has now constructed a life-sized chocolate replica of his own kitchen made from more than 2,000 pounds of donated chocolate and sugar to raise awareness and money to combat heart disease. His young son, Jonathan, was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and this led Roby to become involved with the Saving Tiny Hearts Society.
Roby said that after he is finished with his all-chocolate kitchen project, he is sure he’ll have another extreme chocolate challenge to tackle.
“It’s in my blood,” he said. “I don’t have blood. I have chocolate running through my veins.”

German designer Christoph Thetard designed a versatile kitchen appliance that uses no electricity, because it’s powered by the chef’s foot! The R2B2 has three attachments: a chopper, blender, and grinder that all connect to a rotary gear powered by a flywheel contained in the cabinet. Bonus -running the machine with your foot also burns calories! Link -via Mother Nature Network
This ad appeared in 1952. I don’t know how many of these units they actually sold, but I’ve had a few apartments that would have worked better with all the appliances set into a five-square-foot space. It would also have been nice to have a couple of clones to do the work. Link -via J-Walk Blog

Why buy a new gadget or chemical when something you have in the kitchen will do just as well? Lifehacker listed ten of their favorite kitchen repurposing tricks. For example, I get plenty of Kool-Aid splashed in the dishwasher, but I didn’t know the lemon flavor (without the sugar) can be a cleaning agent.
It kind of makes one concerned about the thought of actually drinking something like Kool-Aid lemonade, but the citric acid in one drink packet is enough to clean the lime stains and calcium deposits that build up over time in the dishwasher.

You’d be excused if you ask why we’re posting a photo of somebody’s kitchen – what makes nifty is that it’s not a real kitchen; you’re looking at part of a highly detailed 1:12 miniature house, painstakingly created by Josje.

Two ovens for the price of 10! Actually, the selling point of this TurboChef is its top oven, which purports to cook food 15 times faster than a normal oven. The company claims that the speed oven will cook a 12-pound turkey in just 42 minutes by using a patented combination of hot air and microwave technology.
