There's ballet ... then there's light bulb ballet. Take a look at this beautifully choreographed Dance of the Light Bulbs by Eleazar Fanjul (it starts slow, but give it time ...)

Try doing that on those curly CFLs, Eco-Nazis! ;)

This Robot Juggles Better than Most People

Posted by Shane McGlaun in Robot, Video Clips on June 1, 2011 at 12:11 pm

I can’t juggle at all. I have tried before, but I always drop the balls or whatever I am juggling. This robot can juggle and do it very well, I am a little jealous. It does the deed very loudly though with lots of whirring and noise. It uses high-speed cameras to see where the balls are and adjust the trajectory so they go into the waiting “hands” to be tossed up again.

Juggling Robot

Posted by John Farrier in Robot, Science & Tech, Video Clips on January 5, 2011 at 6:34 pm

(Video Link)

Once you’ve developed robots that can feed on human flesh, the next obvious step is to teach it to juggle. This amazing robot can juggle a ping-pong ball and, very briefly, two. Moreover, it accomplishes this feat without any external sensors. The robot can’t see or hear the ball. Rather, it calculates where the ball will land:

How does the robot do this? The key elements are the shape of the paddle and how the robot strikes the ball. We used mathematical analysis to learn which shape and motion would make “sensorless” juggling possible. What we found was that a slightly concave paddle keeps the ball on the plate and that a decelerating motion keeps the ball in the air.

You can read technical details about this project, dubbed “The Blind Juggler”, at the link.

This dog must think that it’s a seal – here’s a YouTube clip of the dog skillfully juggling a basketball on its nose. (According to its owner, the dog was never taught to do this – it learned to juggle on its own)

Virtual Juggling: Just as Hard as Real Juggling

Space cat in zero gravity

Posted by Adam Stanhope in Animals & Pets, Science & Tech, Video Clips on January 11, 2009 at 8:24 pm

For security reasons, we must remain circumspect about exactly how this video got to Neatorama headquarters from outer-space. It’s footage of an act almost as heinous and terrifying as cat juggling. This time, it’s a cat in zero gravity.

Note that the audio has been removed to protect the innocent.

Courage.
