Fiat Lux

Fiat Lux is a lamp with a switch that hovers underneath -no strings attached! The ball-shaped switch is magnetic, and rests on the lamp when not in use. When you approach the lamp, it turns itself on. Then you “hang” the switch underneath, where it levitates by magnetic force. Move the switch to turn the lamp off. Hover Chair

Posted by Queuebot in Arts & Crafts, Gadget, Science & Tech on January 26, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Hoverit Ltd, a British company, has introduced the first piece in its line of magnetic ‘hover’ furniture. Dubbed ‘The Lounger’, the chair is built by hand and defies gravity through the use of repelling magnetic forces in both its bed and base. The feeling one has when kicked back in this lounger is like none other and has been described as “floating on a cloud”.

If you want a hover chair of your own it’ll set you back about £7,500.

Multiple Kill Vehicle's Hover Test

Posted by Alex in Weapons & War on December 12, 2008 at 4:27 am

A military killer drone, er … missile defense took one step closer to reality. Here’s a video clip of a "multiple kill vehicle" completing its hover test:

Objectives of the test included having the MKV-L hover under its own power and prove its capability to recognize and track a surrogate target in a flight environment. During the test, the MKV-L’s propulsion system demonstrated maneuverability while tracking a target. The MKV-L transmitted video and flight telemetry to the ground.
