Lutz Eichholz has accomplished the impossible. He previously set the world record for riding a unicycle down a line of beer bottles (a highly competitive event) at 7.99 meters. Now he’s smashed that record by riding 8.93 meters at the Unicycle Israel Convention in Tel Aviv.

On Monday, Glen Suter did something most men only get to dream about: driving a couch faster than anyone else ever has. He set a Guinness World Record by driving a couch equipped with a 1400 cc motorcycle engine up to 101 miles per hour. This shattered the previous record of 92 miles per hour.

This German-language video shows Ronny Wechselberger breaking the world record for parallel parking — that’s sliding into position quickly with as little clearance as possible. He set a new record at 26 cm.
The notes at the video link state this record was set in April. Since that time, Zhang Hua of China broke it at 24 cm.-via Doobybrain
John “Doctor Hot Licks” Taylor prides himself on playing the guitar very well, very quickly. Back in April, he tried to break the world record as the fastest guitar player. In this video from the event, he started playing “Flight of the Bumblebee” at 170 beats per minute. Taylor gradually worked his way up until he played the piece at 600 bpm at 11 minutes, 30 seconds into the video. Guinness World Records confirmed this effort and declared that Taylor is the fastest guitar player in the world. Link -via Snowflakes in Hell
Move over, Edward Nino Hernandez, there’s a new smallest man in town. Junrey Balawing of Zamboanga del Norte, who turns 18 today, measures only 24 inches from head to foot lying down and just over 23 inches standing up.
Balawing, the eldest of four siblings, is not only the shortest living man, but the shortest living man in history, the Guinness World Records said.
No monetary prize will be given for Balawing and all other Guinness world record holders.
Balawing unseated Khagendra Thapa Magar of Nepal who is 26.4 inches tall.
Municipal administrator Allan Selda earlier said the local government is preparing to celebrate for the record with balloons and a cake for Balawing.

Colin Bleasdale, an ice cream maker in Lancashire, UK, hopes to be entered in the Guinness Book of World Records for an ice cream concoction that he is making for the upcoming British royal wedding:
Mr Bleasdale, who teaches art at Larches House in Preston, said: “The ice cream will resemble a wedding posy that will be covered in fake jewels made from jelly or melted toffee.
“Fifteen cones will be used to create the bouquet and each one will be covered with real gold leaves. I may also include a champagne sorbet and black truffles.”
Mr. Bleasdale hopes to top his creation with a large sapphire. Question: if one wanted to make the world’s most expensive ice cream, couldn’t one just get a generic brand then charge a really high price for it? Anyway, I post this story with some hesitation, keeping in mind Tamara Keel’s admonition about Americans and royalty:
If George Washington knew you were Tweeting about the British royal wedding, he’d snatch the iPhone from your hand and kick your ass.

Moses Lanham, Jr., who bills himself as “Mr. Elastic”, can turn his feet 120° backwards. He’s journeying to Rome to attend a show hosted by Guinness World Records. There, he hopes to win the record for walking with his feet backwards:
His second record attempt will clock how fast he can walk 20 meters with his feet turned backward. Lanham is aiming for a 30-second jaunt.
Both will be newly created records.
While it sounds like something that would crack a few bones, Lanham insists it’s completely painless and requires no warm-up routine. “A lot of times when I’m sitting down I’ll put my feet in a twisted position because it’s more comfortable for me,” he said.

Kelly Gneiting, a champion sumo wrestler from Arizona, hopes to complete an upcoming marathon in under nine hours. If successful, he’ll be the heaviest marathon competitor ever according to Guinness World Records:
“I have high self-esteem and believe I can do anything,” he told the Daily Telegraph. “I’m big, but I feel like I have a talent for this.” Mr Gneiting, who is originally from Idaho, is 6ft tall and has a 5ft waist. He is a three-time American sumo champion and has represented the US at the world championships.
He said that his size made running uncomfortable. “It’s hard on my feet, my thighs and under my armpits,” he said. He plans to wear slick black Lycra leggings to prevent friction.
The Telegraph (UK) notes that Gneiting weighs 29 stone, which converts to about 184 kilograms. Oh, those Europeans and their odd measurement systems!

Anatoly Konenko, a Russian artist who specializes in miniatures, holds a Guinness World Record for having built the smallest aquarium in the world. It’s 30 mm wide and holds 10 ml:
The water has to be applied using a syringe so as not to disturb the landscape the Siberia-artist lovingly created.
Konenko, who calls his art ‘micro-miniatures’, even made a minuscule fishing net which he used to place the fish, baby Danios.
The adults are usually a favourite with more normal sized tanks but the tiny fish look at home in Konenko’s construction for which he has since added a specially built air pump.

Victor Lopez, Farris Hodo, and Kevin Coon set a Guinness World Record by watching television for a full 86 hours, 6 minutes, and 41 seconds. They were allowed a ten minute break every two hours, but otherwise had to stay awake watching TV the whole time. These three men were the only successful contestants among an original 100 who were challenged to watch the entire run of the TV show 24:
But the bizarre couch potato feat was no walk in the park.
Just ask Raul Valle, 23, a contestant who attempted the challenge but was only able to hang on for 36 hours.
Valle told AOL News that the task wasn’t all that difficult at first, but as the hours dragged on, his focus began to fade.
“The biggest issue was drinking water or coffee and then having to go to the bathroom right away. We had to wait for a break and couldn’t just go whenever we wanted. I was just getting over the flu, too, so that didn’t help. If I hadn’t been sick, I think I could’ve lasted longer. I wish I had,” Valle lamented.

As a publicity stunt for his upcoming movie Megamind, Will Ferrell gathered 1,580 people dressed as superheroes in order to break a Guinness World Record for that feat:
A total of 1,580 costumed individuals showed up to the event, which was more than enough to break the record of 1,500 set by a New Hampshire children’s hospital way back in… August.[...]
Then Ferrell majestically appeared on a rising stage platform, and Guinness spokesman Stuart Claxton verified the world record, to the sound of cheers. “Everyone in a Spider-Man outfit wins a new car!” joked Ferrell.

Poe the Clydesdale is an impressive 6′ 8″ tall and his owner, Shereen Thomspon, is seeking to have him admitted into the Guinness Book of World Records. Poe weighs over 3,000 pounds and stands at 80.8 inches high. The current record holder is shorter by a mere .8 inches.
The giant horse eats 10 pounds of grain and drinks 75 gallons of water per day. “He is extremely popular, but his size always means people keep a cautious distance from him — although they shouldn’t, as he is a real puppy,” Thompson said.
Some people will go to great lengths to get into the Guinness World Records. Take, for example, this Chinese bride that got married in a wedding dress with a train more than 1.2 miles (2 km) long:
It took guests more than three hours to roll out the gown, complete with 9,999 silk red roses attached to it, in the northeastern province of Jilin, state news agency Xinhua said.
"Both the length of the dress and the number silk roses pinned on the wedding dress can make history," the report quoted groom Zhao Peng as saying.
Zhao, who has applied to Guinness World Records, said he was inspired after seeing a story on the previous record holder in Romania, where the dress measured just over 1.5 km.
"I do not want a cliche wedding parade or banquet," he said.

It was big enough to provide 1,500 servings:
Measuring 12 inches tall and 24 inches wide the cupcake weighed 150.7 pounds and used 15 pounds of fudge filling and 60 pounds of yellow icing.
Makers cakes.com created the cake as part of celebrations for the SpongeBob SquarePants’ 10th anniversary at the Minneapolis Mall of America.
An adjudicator from Guinness World Records was on hand to inspect (and sample) the cake before declaring it the world’s largest cupcake.
