There’s a bunch of new print ads out for Disney’s Star Wars Weekends, and they’re pretty funny.  See Darth Vader wait in line, Ewoks get denied, TIE fighters at airport gates and more at The Chive.

Trolls

Posted by Queuebot in Funny on November 14, 2009 at 1:34 pm

A funny illustrated look inside the world of internet trolls, with a classification chart of different traits and different members of the troll ecosystem.

The best way to deal with trolls varies by type. To deal with the professor and critic, ignoring their rants goes a long way. They may get angrier at first, but the lack of an audience will drive them to more easily riled up communities, soon. Screamers should be gagged somehow, and are usually easy to pick out by their caps lock and swears-to-normal-words ratio.

Ok, so maybe there is a slight hint of sarcasm incorporated into the title of this video.  Apparently there is a learning curve, for some, when it comes to the classic household game of hide and seek.  This little "ninja" has a long way to go in terms of mastering the art of finding a stealthy hiding spot.  The two images at the end of the video are priceless.

Love video games and jazz? Well, Scott Bradlee and Ben Golder-Novick teamed up to bring you this: classic video game music in piano and saxophone!

Love 8-bit Nintendo games but not necessarily 8-bit musical
instruments? Wish you could hear the soundtracks of those games
rendered by live musicians as you play?

Eight Bits of Jam will come into your living room and provide real-time acoustic soundtracks to old school games such as Super Mario Bros., The Legend of Zelda,
Mike Tyson’s Punch-out, and many more. All you have to do is put the television on ‘mute’ and Eight Bits of Jam will take care of the rest.

Amusing Real Estate Listings

Posted by Johnny Cat in Blog & Internet, Pictures on October 4, 2009 at 3:17 pm

Lovely Listing is a collection of user-submitted finds in the the real estate world.  Sometimes you just have to wonder what people were thinking, whether it be the agent’s choice of photo, the seller’s interior decor, or the builder themselves, as exemplified above:

Dude. Check it out. The weirdest thing ever is going on here. You see? You see it? So bizarre: the toilet paper is hung on the shower stall door. Crazy!

There might be something else wrong here, too.

1987 Dating Video

Posted by Johnny Cat in Everything Else, Video Clips on September 29, 2009 at 12:44 am

This completely hilarious montage of circa 1987 video dater men was featured on Boing Boing yesterday, and as one commenter mentioned, the guy at 3:34 was a dead ringer for Seth Green.  Upon second viewing, I noticed that the guy at 2:27 looks and sounds like Seth Rogen.

That got me thinking.  Is the Seth Green guy really Seth Green, filmed recently?  Slipped into a montage of real 87 vid-daters?  And if that is Seth Rogen, is it also current footage with makeup, because if it was really him he’d be about 5 years old in 1987. It seems odd that two Seths appear in one seemingly random new (old) funny video.

Anyway, aside from that, there’s lots of funny to be found in this new viral gem.  Hard to pick a favorite, but the Goddess guy/ Bon Jovi afficionado is impressive.

NY Snuggie Fashion Show

If you’ve ever thought that New York’s Fashion Week is taken way too seriously, then you might be like the Snuggie marketing team. Yes, they actually introduced new fabrics and colors, but the reasons behind the show has a lot more to do with silliness than displaying the new products. The host of the show was Ross The Intern from The Jay Leno Show.

There was only a dozen or so attendees at the event, but the tongue-in-cheek message will outlast a lot of the here today, gone tomorrow couture fashions on display elsewhere in the city.

Modern Observations of Young People

Posted by Johnny Cat in Blog & Internet, Funny, Quote-a-Day on September 11, 2009 at 10:26 am

Bang It Out posted this list of 55 “Random Thoughts of People Our Age” that contains a lot of true, yet funny things about the age of blooming technology, and the social awkwardness of living in that world as a blooming person.  A few gems:

#11. I think everyone has a movie that they love so much, it actually becomes stressful to watch it with other people. I’ll end up wasting 90 minutes shiftily glancing around to confirm that everyone’s laughing at the right parts, then making sure I laugh just a little bit harder (and a millisecond earlier) to prove that I’m still the only one who really, really gets it.

#25. While driving yesterday I saw a banana peel in the road and instinctively swerved to avoid it…thanks Mario Kart.

#29. Shirts get dirty. Underwear gets dirty. Pants? Pants never get dirty, and you can wear them forever.

#32. Whenever I’m Facebook stalking someone and I find out that their profile is public I feel like a kid on Christmas morning who just got the Red Ryder BB gun that I always wanted. 546 pictures? Don’t mind if I do!

#44.  I like all of the music in my iTunes, except when it’s on shuffle, then I like about one in every fifteen songs in my iTunes.

All people have little truths about modern life they like.  Any of these strike your funny bone, or any to add?

The 6 Most Frequently Quoted Bullshit Animal Facts

Posted by Queuebot in Animal, Funny on September 3, 2009 at 11:35 pm

Remember all those cools facts you learned about animals when you were 10? Totally false. For example, you’ve heard that lemmings commit mass suicide.

This rumor was probably started in the early 19th Century. Scientists would see sudden bursts of the lemming population that would just as suddenly shrink, and they couldn’t figure out why. In 1908 a man named Arthur Mee decided that “mass suicide” seemed as good an answer as any and published it in his The Children’s Encyclopedia.

10 Types of Comic Con Fans

Posted by Jill Harness in Cartoon & Comic, Fashion, Funny, Neatorama Only, Pictures, Travel & Places on July 31, 2009 at 1:39 am

If you missed Comic Con, you missed more than just the costumes of course. You also missed the array of personality types that seem to pop up at these large-scale geekfests. You may think you know about the attendees, based on the stereotypes, but really, there’s a lot more too it than you thought.

    The Stereo-typical Geek

These are the kids that smell like they haven’t bathed in a week and still get giddy over the concept of seeing a girl “IRL.” While revolting to everyone around them, they still think they’re total studs and try to chat up the illustrious booth girls somehow hoping their Jedi mind tricks will actually help convince the girl they are cool. Even if you don’t see many of these geeks, you most certainly will smell them, as this sign helps demonstrate.

    The Twilight Fans

These are the newest breed at the convention and their presence actually worried organizers. There was even talk of organizing things so the panels and booths these tweens were expected to visit would be super far away from the things the geeks were expected to be interested in. Fortunately, these fans actually blended in just fine and were largely the same as the Harry Potter fans that have become a fixture at the convention. While it’s impossible to say how long these fans will stay in the scene, it will most certainly not be a problem having the around.

    The Booth Babe

These are professional hotties who actually have no interest in anything geekish, particularly comic books, video games and even shows like “Heroes” or “Chuck.” While they would normally never be willing to be seen with the average people visiting these conventions, they’re happy to chat with them and pose for photos as long as there is a nice check of at least $200 a day in it for them. In more recent years, the standard booth babes have been reduced, thanks in part to Suicide Girls, who tend to have far more of an interest in these type of activities. In fact Suicide Girls even had a pre-Comic Con collection of Cosplay shots just to emphasize the girls’ natural geekiness.

    The Cross-Over Costumer

Like Star Wars and Sherlock Holmes? Why not be Jedi Sherlock? What about cooking and Star Wars? Chef Darth Vader of course. One of the most famous crossover fans is Elvis Storm Trooper (to the left), who not only has his own website, but also travels to as many conventions as possible every year. Of course, he always makes it to the San Diego Comic Con every year.

    The Star Wars Fans

Comic Con has always been a huge supporter of Star Wars, and not only because it’s a scifi classic. You see, George Lucas actually gave a preview of the movie to fans in 1977 before the movie was released and before the convention was even a big deal. The cult following was inevitable.
Of course, modern day Star Wars fans at the convention tend to be extreme. There are fans who make up their own characters as part of their own fan fiction and there are people dressed as characters who were only shown for a matter of seconds in the film.

    The Trekkies

    Image Via Stately English Manor

Despite the stereotypes of comic conventions loaded with Klingons, the Trekkies were actually a dying breed for the last ten or so years. But not this year. Since the newest movies are always a major inspiration for costumes (last year The Dark Knight was huge), Star Trek fans were everywhere this year. Interestingly, it was easy to spot the old-school Trekkies, who had only put their gear on the shelf for a few years, and the new-school Trekkies.

The Guy Way Too Into His Character

These guys can be more than a little scary. While a lot of people get into character and enjoy acting their roles, there always seems to be at least a few costumed villains that seem to be living out their character’s lives. Unfortunately, there’s no psychological test given to people dressed up as villains prior to entry.

So far no one’s been severely injured, but it’s only a matter of time.

    The Weirdo Hippie Guy

This guy’s a rare breed, but there always seems to be at least one of them at the Convention. They all seem to have taken a few too many acid hits. No one, particularly these guys themselves, actually understands why they are so interested in showing up at the convention every year, but the overall accepting attitude of the attendees makes it a welcome place for these “unique” individuals.

    The Steampunks

Steampunk inventions and costumes have been featured many times on Neatorama, but the number of posts is nowhere near the number of steampunks at Comic Con. These guys have always been at the convention, but this last year they’ve really stepped up their numbers. If you’re interested in learning more about the steampunks at Comic Con this year, there is a great article over at KPBS.

    The Lolitas

I have to admit, these are some of my favorite Comic Con fans because I just can’t get enough of the outfits. Just like the steampunks, lolitas have always been around at Comic Con, but their numbers really shot up this year. While many people associate the lolitas with gothic culture, the ones at the convention are more of the Japanophile sort and frequently flock to Giant Robot and other Japanese toy booths to see the newest and hottest imports from their country of choice.

Turtle Sex Causes Massive Delay at JFK Airport

Posted by Jill Harness in Animal, Odd News, Travel & Places on July 12, 2009 at 2:51 pm

While the horseshoe crab orgy is just a fun and cute animal affair, the turtles from Jamaica Bay are a different story. A group of 78 swinging diamondback terrapins held up one of the most busy runways at JFK on Wednesday. It took authorities half an hour to get the turtles off the runway.

He said that the turtles were perhaps attracted to the sand along one side of the runway, which juts into the water. “They tend to look for sand while they are mating,” he said. “Presumably, all these turtles were feeling amorous.” It is unclear whether the turtles pair off, or if the numbers indicated it was a group activity, he said.

Some of the delays lasted up to an hour and a half -but hey, at least the turtles got their sexy on, which is a much better excuse for a delayed flight than most of the ones we hear.

    Daring Rodent Steals Leopard's Food

Posted by Queuebot in Animal, Funny on June 8, 2009 at 7:39 pm

Talk about snatching victory from the jaws of danger! Student photographer Casey Gutteridge snapped this priceless photo of a daring rat literally stealing food from right under the nose of a leopard:

The little rat – thought to be only two to three months old – was spotted scampering into the leopard’s enclosure shortly after feeding time at the Santago Rare Leopard Project, in Hertfordshire.

So intent was the plucky rodent on its mission to snatch a tasty snack, that it seemed not to notice that its path was taking it within a whisker’s breadth of 12-year-old Sheena.

Clutching a corner of raw meat with its tiny paws, the rat busily tucked in, until it sensed one of those whiskers moving in.

Sheena, bemused by the interloper coming between her and the remains of dinner, padded over on paws big enough to wreak vengeance with a single swipe.

But rather than giving the thief at very least the hearty set down it deserved, she gingerly lowered her nose for an exploratory sniff.
