A drunk man found lying on a frozen park bench in his underwear survived because of the amount of alcohol in his blood.

Aleksander Andrzej, 32, was spotted in the Warsaw park – where the temperature was -5C – and taken to hospital by police, reports Metro.

A breath test showed he had 1,024 micrograms per 100ml, nearly 30 times the legal limit for driving, which doctors say helped him live.

They believe alcohol in his blood acted like anti-freeze …

Now, the thing about the hopsicle is that it looks like your standard can of Tecate: Red. Cylindrical. Icy cold. Except the barman-witchdoctors at Diablo have taken the “icy” bit quite literally, injecting the beer with simple syrup and lime juice, jamming a wooden stick into the hole of the can and then putting it in the freezer. For four days.

The result is a genuine beer popsicle, which the bartender must saw in half with a serrated steak knife (or samurai sword) to open. Then it’s up to you to push the wooden stick upward to dispense the hopsicle in true Push Pop style, and decide if you want your savory sweet frozen joyride bathed in tequila as well (note: you want this).

Firefighter Mike Swanson then applied warm water to the boy’s tongue to get it unstuck.  The firefighter crew gave the boy hot chocolate and cookies and he required no further medical attention.  ”This is a first [in] my 18 years with the fire district,” Swanson said.

A news release from the fire department said that even when issued a “triple-dog dare,” they advise people against putting their tongue on a metal pole in the cold.

(Sigh) It’s beginning to look a lot like A Christmas Story.

I am a little under the weather today, and maybe the paper airplane thing was fake.  But if this is fake, at least it also fooled The Huffington Post.  The obvious question is, What is he thinking?

Here’s a heartwarming tale of how people at the Teller County Regional Animal Shelter fought to bring the cat (aptly named Icee) back from the brink of death:

"Whatcha got there?" the shelter director, Mary Steinbeiser, asks when officer Cheri France arrives and puts the carrying crate on the counter.

"A cat," France says. "I’m not sure if it’s still alive."

Steinbeiser pulls the black and white cat, so cold it’s rigid, out of the carrier. The eyes are closed. There’s no movement. This is an awful moment for anyone who loves animals. She steels herself. And then hears the tiniest squeak.

The women exchange glances. It looks really bad. But Steinbeiser
thrusts the cat at France, who unzips her jacket and presses the cat close to her body, then zips back up …

I can’t imagine how cold it would have to be to freeze such a large, fast flowing river and falls. These pictures were taken in 1911 before there was a dam in place, so the water would have been much higher and much faster.
