Posted by Queuebot in Car & Vehicle on August 13, 2009 at 2:05 am

Humans may not be able to walk on water, but an invention by Li Weiguo let us bike on water! Behold the amphibious bicycle, made by water containers jerry-rigged into pontoons:

Li Weiguo’s daughter Li Jin rides the human-powered amphibious bicycle on the water in Wuhan of Hubei Province, China on May 30, 2009. The amphibious bicycle made by Li Weiguo is equipped with eight water buckets as pontoons and adjustable vane wheels as driving power. This kind of bike can walk on land and on water.

Hover Chair

Posted by Queuebot in Arts & Crafts, Gadget, Science & Tech on January 26, 2009 at 5:28 pm

Hoverit Ltd, a British company, has introduced the first piece in its line of magnetic ‘hover’ furniture. Dubbed ‘The Lounger’, the chair is built by hand and defies gravity through the use of repelling magnetic forces in both its bed and base. The feeling one has when kicked back in this lounger is like none other and has been described as “floating on a cloud”.

If you want a hover chair of your own it’ll set you back about £7,500.

Man (Re)builds Amazing Floating Island

Posted by Queuebot in Architecture on January 12, 2009 at 12:57 pm

Who hasn’t wanted their very own private island? And what if you could build it with some friends and free recycled objects. Sound too good to be true? This guy has built not one but two!

The original Spiral Island was (as its successor will be) built upon a floating collection used plastic bottles, all netted together to support a bamboo and plywood structure above. Located in Mexico, the original was 66 by 54 feet and was able to support full-sized mangroves to provide shade and privacy, yet also able to be moved from place to place by its creator as need with a simple motorized system.
