Deep-fried Bubblegum

Posted by Miss Cellania in Food & Drink on September 7, 2011 at 7:31 am

A recipe for Deep-fried Bubblegum won the 2011 State Fair of Texas Seventh Annual Big Tex Choice Awards. But it’s not really bubblegum -because that wouldn’t be food.

Well, to be fair, it’s just called deep-fried bubblegum, it’s really “a marshmallow dipped with bubble gum extract then dipped in pink bubble gum flavored batter and lightly fried”. According to a KDFW News video out of Dallas-Fort Worth, chef Justin Martinez concocted the treat from an employee’s suggestion and spent two months perfecting it. He explains that the marshmallow gives the consistency of chewing fried bubblegum.

You’d have to be an extreme bubblegum fan to even try this. Link

Deep-Fried Kool-Aid

Posted by Miss Cellania in Food & Drink on June 20, 2011 at 7:47 am

Once you’ve tried every kind of food imaginable deep-fried or on a stick, what’s new for the county and state fairs this year? Deep-Fried Kool-Aid, of course! Creator “Chicken” Charlie Boghosian isn’t sharing the exact recipe, but it involves flour and Kool-Aid powder. And a deep-fryer. And possibly sugar.

Chicken Charlie’s is a staple of fried rations at fairs across the country. It sold 400 to 600 orders of deep-fried Kool-Aid per day the first weekend of the San Diego County Fair. That’s about double the rate of previous debut items, Boghosian said.

“That’s because it tastes so darn good,” Boghosian said of the Kool-Aid.

Deep Fried Butter!?!

Posted by Jill Harness in Everything Else, Food & Drink, Health on September 4, 2009 at 3:53 pm

Fried Butter.h2 The same genius who invented deep fried cookie dough, deep fried coke and other innovative fair foods is at it again. This time, Abel Gonzales Jr., is bringing you the ultimate in artery clogging death foods -deep fried butter. This one actually manages to put chicken fried bacon and bacon sandwiches using chicken for bread to shame.

So here’s what Gonzales does: He takes 100 percent pure butter, whips it until it is light and fluffy, freezes it, then surrounds it with dough. The butter-laden dough balls are then dropped into the deep fryer. For purists who just want the unadulterated taste of butter, Gonzales serves up plain-butter versions of his creation. For others who want a little more pizzazz, he offers three additional versions with flavored butters: garlic, grape or cherry.

Tasters seemed to like it, claiming it tastes like a hot roll with butter.

KFC Introduces Delicious, Deadly Sandwich

Posted by Jill Harness in Food & Drink on August 21, 2009 at 5:55 pm

We’ve posted our share of artery clogging-fair foods before, including the deep-fried Krispy Kreme chicken sandwich, but now KFC’s giving them all a run for their money. This heart attack-waiting-to-happen is called the Double Down Sandwich and it’s made of two deep fried chicken breasts used as bread for a bacon and cheese sandwich. It’s apparently only available in limited areas, so I’m wondering, have any of you Neatorama readers tried it and lived to tell the tale? For those of you who haven’t, would you try this delicious, bacony, deathwich?
