Scott and Tina Robbins called 911 after hearing a crash in the street outside their home in Salem, Indiana. A truck had hit a tree so hard that the vehicle appeared to be wrapped around it. The truck was driven by John Newcomb, a Seymour, Indiana police officer.
“He was sitting on the wall out of the vehicle, holding his head,” said Mrs. Robbins. But that wasn’t the only thing that stood out to the Robbins, it was the trailer Newcomb was pulling.
“It said DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) and Seymour Police Department- which made me think he was a police officer,” said Mr. Robbins.
Not only a police officer, but according to the Seymour Police Department website, he is the School Resource Officer, responsible for seven schools, acting as a mentor and providing students with a role model. It even states that he conducts lectures on narcotics and alcohol and their effects on driving.
“He’s not setting a good example for kids that see this,” said Mr. Robbins.
Newcomb said he crashed because a dog in the vehicle distracted him. He was taken to the Washington County Jail. Link -via Fark
There’s a store in Clearwater, Florida that has a unique sign. It reads “DUI Scooters”. This scooter dealership caters to people who have lost their driver’s licenses, but need transportation. Under the law, riders of low-powered scooters don’t need a license:
They have pedals, which may or may not be used, and run for up to 25 miles on an electric charge. They fit a state and federal description of “low-speed electric bicycles.” Sunset Scooters gives customers copies of the law, recommending they laminate it and keep it with them.
“At first, we had some trouble with law enforcement basically not understanding what these were,” Vitello said. “Even some judges were completely mystified. But now they all seem to be on board.

With a name like “Donald Duck”, I’m sure we can all understand why he has a drug and alcohol problem. Growing up must be tough for this dude:
A man named Donald Duck was arrested on drug charges after an accident in a drive-through line over the weekend.
Officers said Duck, 51, was arrested at about 5:25 p.m. Saturday after he repeatedly struck the car in front of him while at a drive-through pizza line on Lincoln Way East in Massillon.
Kelly Moss of Germantown, Tennessee was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving when police officers found her parked on the sidewalk and slumped over the steering wheel. The 48-year-old was unable to stand and could not complete a field sobriety test. What had she been drinking?
An officer noticed partially empty bottles of vanilla extract, labeled as 35 percent alcohol by volume, and Diet Coke in the front seat, and they said they smelled a strong vanilla odor on the woman’s breath. A grocery receipt found in the vehicle listed two 8-ounce bottles of vanilla extract, purchased Wednesday.

You don’t have to be actually driving a car to be arrested for drunk driving. People have been arrested while operating a horse-and-buggy, a golf cart, or even a couch.
In perhaps the most absurd DUI case ever recorded, Dennis LeRoy Anderson, a 62 year old Minnesota couch potato with far too much time on his hands, was charged with DUI after crashing his motorized La-Z-Boy couch into a parked car. On October 22nd, 2009, Anderson swigged down far too many beers before taking his hot rod couch out for a spin around town. The couch, which was powered by a lawn mower engine, came strapped with a music-pumping boom box, a living room lamp, and cup holders to store his beer while steering.

Drive sober in Salinas, California, and Tuesday could be your lucky night. At a certain DUI checkpoint, some motorists who pass through will be awarded a free turkey!
This is the seventh year Salinas police have added a giveaway to the Thanksgiving week DUI checkpoint.
It’s become so popular, Salinas police are now asking drivers not to go through the checkpoint more than once just to try to win a turkey.
Police keep the location secret ahead of set up.
