Ackbar’s Trap Bar

If you remember the Cadbury ad campaign of 2007, then consider this a parody. If you don’t, well then it’s Chewbacca playing a Phil Collins song on drums, which is awesome enough, right? -Thanks, Nick!

According to a rough Babelfish translation from the Russian description, Alexander Ishutin bought a motorcycle and installed a drum set on it so he and his friends could do this. In Soviet Russia, concert drives to you! -via reddit

Air Guitar Never Looked So Sweet

Posted by Zeon Santos in Entertainment, Gaming, Music on August 17, 2011 at 6:29 pm

Even the most die-hard air band enthusiast knows just how silly they look when they’re jamming out on a drum set or guitar that simply isn’t there. And audiences don’t appreciate the hard work and talent that went in to mimicking musicianship when they can’t see the source of the sweet sounds. Enter Air Band for Kinect on Xbox 360, a game that brings your invisible instruments to life via snazzy neon graphics that will make you feel right at home when you’re playing an epic rendition of “More Than A Feeling”. Now your audience will no longer be disappointed, and you can show them why you’ve been practicing so hard all these years! Kinect Fun Labs-Air Band debuts on August 22nd.

Carnival Bateria

Posted by Miss Cellania in Music on March 8, 2011 at 9:05 am

You might not be able to fly down to Rio for Carnival, but you can hear and feel a “bateria,” a samba school drum section, in this web toy from Brazil. Enjoy the rhythm, or toggle on and off the sections to hear how each instrument sounds: shaker, cuica, agogo, tambourine, snare drum, repique, and bass drum. Use the menu at the top of the site to see the actual instruments played or see how a samba parade is conducted. Link -Thanks, Alessandro Manoel!

The Isiserettes Drill and Drum Corps

Posted by Stacy in Video Clips on December 11, 2008 at 5:45 pm

I love this group. The Isiserettes are a non-profit drill and drum corps from Des Moines headed to D.C. in January to perform at Barack Obama’s inauguration. The official group is made up of kids ages 7 to 18, but I’ve seen some pretty tiny kids grooving out there (which is adorable).

This video is cool, but I have to say it doesn’t do them justice: they’re super impressive when you see them live. Here’s a video of the drum line in action:

Let There Be Drums!

Posted by Miss Cellania in Everything Else on December 3, 2008 at 11:40 am

The Lunchtime Quiz at mental_floss is beginning a series of quizzes on well-known drumbeats.

Today’s quiz is our first entry in the Let There Be Drums series. All you have to do is listen to each of 10 drum intros to hit songs of the late 1960s, and match them with the correct song title. Easy? Maybe for some.

Not only did I score 100%, I didn’t even have to look at the song titles to know them! Link

Wii Drum High

Posted by Miss Cellania in Gadgets, Hacks & Mods, Music on December 3, 2008 at 9:56 am

HE Zao built a virtual drum kit (or it it an “air drum’?) out of a different Wii accessories and a bit of software!

With Nintendo Wii remote, Nunchuk and Wii Balance Board, it is easy to produce drum kit sounds from programming of their acceleration, joystick and weight data. These data can be transmitted from Wii controllers via Bluetooth to PC or Mac without Wii consoles. Wii Drum High integrates all three kinds of Wii controllers to stimulate a complete drum set of Hi-hat, Snare, Base drum, Crash cymbal, Ride cymbal, Mid tom and Low tom. Up to 4 sets of Wii remote and nunchuk can be used at the same time. (one of my colleague succeeded in connecting 5 wiimotes to a PC, but I’ve never tried)

No, it wouldn’t be an “air drum” because it produces the sound itself. Link (with video) -Thanks, Joe!

A Korean drummer steals the show. Unfortunately, there is no information about the name of the band. Maybe someone else knows?
