If you wear a costume that illustrates an internet meme, you might find yourself explaining it over and over, but when someone “in the know” sees you and gives a thumbs up, it’s all worth it! Still, this Old Spice Guy shown here will probably be recognized by everyone. Our own Jill Harness put together a list of the hottest meme Halloween costumes for this year in a list at Oddee. Link

Skanky versions of normal costumes — they’re all the rage these days for Halloween. You know, like sexy librarian, sexy nurse, sexy blogger. That sort of thing. Jillian Tamaki has a few suggestions along these lines. View more at the link.

There was a huge turnout of cosplayers at new York’s Comic-Con, and photographer Michael Tapp was there to document them. See a gallery of 43 photographs of the best costumes to be seen at the convention at Geeks Are Sexy. Link

Photographer Senen Llanos took portraits of cosplayers attending New York’s Comic-Con this weekend. He highlighted the subject by separating the character from the “busy background” that you’re familiar with in convention photos. See 39 cosplay portraits at his site. Link

On Halloween, we get the chance to involve our sweet little children in our geekiest cosplay fantasies. Or we can just enjoy other people’s children, dressed in the geekiest trick-or-treat costumes ever! See dozens of the most adorable geek baby Halloween costumes at NeatoBambino. I can’t think of a single costume that works nearly as well for a one-legged woman (or that’s so sexy) as this Christmas Story lamp costume.

I know opinions are torn about putting cats in costumes, just as they are about LOL cats, but for those of you who support both of these ideas, BuzzFeed’s collection of cat pirates is sure to entertain.
I do my best to bring you guys the best possible Comic Con costumes every year, but I’m certainly not a professional photographer by any means. Fortunately, Kevin Knightly is and he was able to take a number of characters out of the fray of the convention to get them to pose in appropriate and awesome settings, resulting in some unforgettable cosplay pictures. Enjoy the full gallery at Flavorwire.
You might remember my post from a week ago featuring a precious baby dressed as The Doctor, at the time, I had no info on where the image came from. But thanks to your comments, I now know that the WhoBaby actually has her own blog, Flickr account and Twitter account filled with even more adorable pictures. If you want more, there is plenty more to see, so enjoy!
I don’t have any info on the source of this picture, but I know that at least a few of our Neatorama readers probably have dressed their little ones up in clothing like this on occasion. Anyone know where this picture comes from or have any geeky baby pics of their own?

I know Halloween is still two months away, but it’s never too early to enjoy some ridiculously cute pictures of critters in goofy costumes. InventorSpot has a great list of the best costumes released this year, but I have to say that this dinodog is definitely my favorite.
I just posted about a sexy TARDIS corset, but for those geek girls who aren’t into Doctor Who and instead prefer Tron, Etsy seller Artifice Clothing has you covered with these vinyl, glowing cosplay outfits.

Those of you who saw my Comic Con costumes post from this year already saw how many cute TARDIS costumes there were at the convention, but this TARDIS corset just might be one of the sexiest ways you can dress as a big blue box.

Quick, guess which one is the real panda! Tao Tao is a giant panda born at the Wolong Panda wild training base in China, but he has never seen a human face. His caretakers have always dressed in panda costumes any time they were around him! They are training Tao Tao for a life in the wild bamboo forest. See more pictures at Shortlist, where you can also see a video of Tao Tao’s birth and first year. Link -via Buzzfeed
Last week, Jill posted 65 Seriously Great Comic Con Costumes here at Neatorama. But she took hundreds of photographs at Comic-Con! If you are jonesing for more fans dressed as comic book, video game, TV, or movie characters, you can see (or find links to) a lot more in a massive photo post at Rue the Day. Some costumes even mashed up different universes, like this Star Trek red shirt being attacked by an Alien facehugger. Which makes perfect sense when you think about it. Link
Now that you’ve probably seen your good share of Comic Con costumes, I’m sure you’ve seen this great Death Star dress. If you want to make your own, the creator can give you some tips over on the Official Star Wars Blog.
Now that I’ve posted up all my Comic Con costume articles here and on Rue The Day, I’ve finally started looking the other photo galleries. While I’ve seen a few good ones here and there , I really didn’t feel like I missed anything major until I saw this adorable Dalek costume. If only it were possible to survey all of the convention at once.

As I’m sure all of you already know, Comic Con took place last weekend and as always, there were hundreds and hundreds of costumed convention goers. This year Zeon Santos and I took over 200 pictures of people in costumes and here are the best of the bunch, starting with the Oogie Boogie Man and Sally from Nightmare Before Christmas.
Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers was the most popular couples costume this year, but what set these two apart was their great accessories.
Perhaps the biggest (and in my opinion, the coolest) trend this year was turning male characters into adorable female versions. I can’t think of anyone that better epitomized this trend than this adorable Toy Story pairing.
Here’s another delightful gender-bending costume, this time a female Doctor Who. Of course, those familiar with the show know that he just might become a female during his next incarnation.
While this isn’t quite what I was talking about when I mentioned turning traditionally male costumes into adorable female versions, I doubt any of you have ever seen a more girly Master Chief.
Just in time for Comic Con, this Break.com PSA reminds ladies that there are more sexy female cosplay costumes besides the classic princess Leia salve outfit. We’ll soon see if this has any impact on the female cosplayers visiting the convention this year, but honestly, there is always a ton of variety at the convention.

The duct tape prom dress scholarship contest was going on when I was in high school, but even so, none of our dresses were nearly this outrageous. This particular couple’s costume was inspired by the late, great Andy Warhol. There are plenty more insane prom outfits at the link, so be sure to check them all out.
If anyone was interested in creating a list of the geekiest dresses on earth, this one would definitely be near the top of the list. My favorite part of the dress though is that it looks fairly simply to make, but would be an excellent Comic Con costume. If any Neatonauts who are planning to attend the convention want to get on my yearly Comic Con costumes post, this is a great way to do so.
Rain Price of American Fork, Utah rode the bus to school every day. During the past year, the bus drove by his house after picking him up at the bus stop. And every day, his dad would be there in front of the house, waving.
“When he did it the first day, I was in shock,” Rain said. “It’s my first day of my sophomore year.”
The embarrassment was a thrill for his father.
The second day of school, there he was again, only this time Price was wearing a San Diego Chargers helmet and jersey. Day three, it was an Anakin Skywalker helmet, and the next day, swim trunks and a snorkel mask.
Other kids started to take note.
“Most of them like it, and we roll down our windows and wave. It’s fun,” Rain said.
His dad admits it took a lot of effort to keep it up, but said it was “a way of letting him know that we really care about him, but do something a little different.” He described it as “a father’s way” of saying I love you.
Rain’s father wore a different costume almost every day of the school year, including a white wedding dress once. Link to story. Link to website. -via Metafilter
Flickr user Vó Maria’s got the right idea. You might not even have to leave your kitchen to complete a Wolverine costume. Caleb Goellner of Comics Alliance, however, correctly points out that one needs a three-pronged fork to make this really convincing.

I know the Orlando Star Wars celebration is long past, but when I found this picture of two toddlers dressed up as droids for the convention, I couldn’t help but post it here to share it with all of my fellow Neatogeeks.
The first ever Miami Comic-Con was last weekend, and Jen from CakeWrecks was there with her camera. See a lot more pictures of Ghostbusters, Bat people, zombies, and assorted super heroes at Epbot. Link
Aren’t they adorable? The best-dressed guinea pigs are wearing holiday costumes from Cuddly Cavies Costumes and Clothes for Guinea Pigs & Rabbits. It may be too late to order your Christmas clothing, but there are costumes for guinea pigs to wear for Halloween, Thanksgiving, graduation, Talk Like a Pirate Day, and everyday animal and super hero costumes as well! That’s not a painting by British street painter Banksy. It’s a costume designed and worn by George Schnakenberg to look like Banksy’s “Love Is in the Air” stencil. Schnakenberg painted his clothing and bundle of flowers to create the necessary impression when properly posed. At the link, you can view several process photos showing how he did it.
Instructables user ModMischief created a costume that makes her look like a genie on a flying carpet. Her legs are hidden beneath the carpet by a black curtain. The entire project took her just four hours to complete.
