Tired of a ho-hum climbing wall? Check out this whimsical climbing wall at the ILLOIHA fitness club in Japan, as designed by architecture design firm Nendo. It looks straight out of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland!

The Excalibur is a climbing wall at the Klimcentrum Bjoeks, a climbing center in Groningen, The Netherlands. It’s the tallest climbing wall in the world, standing at 121 feet with a 36-foot overhang.
Photographer Eric Kieboom took many excellent pictures of this wall, 14 of which are available in his Flickr photostream. He suspended his camera from a kite line for the overhead shots.

In the Netherlands, there are not many natural places to practice the sport of rock-climbing. But oddly enough, the University of Enschede in the east of the Netherlands has a very active mountaineering club.
So the architects of the new university dormitory chose to make one side of the building into a huge climbing wall, 30 meters (about 9 stories) tall, with 2,500 grips.
