Vintage Cadillac Funeral Cars

Posted by The Nag in Auto & Transportation on October 25, 2010 at 5:20 am

How would you like to take your last earthly trip in a carved Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 Special like this one? Owner, Fernando Aguerre, found two of these funeral cars in an antique barn in Argentina and had them restored by a body shop owner who also refinishes furniture in his spare time. He had the right combination of skills to bring these circa 1942 wooden beauties back to their former gaudy glory.

The new presidential limousine is officially called Cadillac One, but everyone already knows it as the Obamamobile. It was built by General Motors.

The company refuses to give precise details of how it will perform its primary purpose – protecting the president.

But bulletproof glass and armourplatingare standard throughout and the car is hermetically-sealed to withstand chemical weapons.

As with previous presidential limos it is packed with electronic communication systems to allow Mr Obama to keep in contact with the outside world.

Cadillac One will debut at the inaugural parade on Tuesday. Link -via the Presurfer

Cadillac World Thorium Fuel Concept Car

Posted by Alex in Auto & Transportation, Pictures on January 14, 2009 at 3:24 pm

That’s the World Thorium Fuel concept car by Cadillac. The Cadillac WTF (yes, I know), designed by Loren Kulesus, is supposed to be powered by the nuclear fuel thorium and therefore last 100 years (Whaaa? Nuclear fuel in a car? What a great idea!):

Elsewhere, every major system is redundant in case of a failure. And the wheels don’t have individual tires – in fact, what’s located at each corner is one combined unit made up of six individual wheels. That gives you 24 wheels in total, and each wheel has its own induction motor. Said Kulesus, "The vehicle would require the tires to be adjusted every five years, but no material would need to be added or subtracted."
