With the wave of portable gaming consoles coming out, it’s not surprising that SNK has jumped on board and revealed their Neo-Geo Portable Device (hopefully tentative title), which will come pre-loaded with 20 classic titles like Metal Slug, King Of Monsters and Fatal Fury, has 2gb internal memory and an SD card slot for loading emulator ROMs, and even has an AV output for playing on the bigger screen.
What is surprising is how little we’ve heard about anything Neo-Geo over the years, considering their fan following and the fact that I still see Neo-Geo arcade units all the time in bars and taco shops all over town.
I guess the ridiculously high $600 price tag really did put this otherwise awesome console to bed, so hopefully the release of this Portable Device, and a more affordable price tag, will help resurrect the arcade gaming giant.

This is not a joke, Capcom, the company behind Street Fighter and many other video games, and Sanrio, the makers of Hello Kitty and all things minimalist cute, have formed a partnership in order to collaboratively release merchandise featuring characters from both franchises. Imagine what Keroppi will do when Blanka challenges him to a battle! How this crossover will affect your Street Fighter rep remains to be seen…

Space Invaders is such an iconic video game, not just because it’s one of the first, and fan tributes have taken many forms over the years. From murals to t shirts to street artists putting tile mosaics on city walls in the shape of pixel aliens, Space Invaders has definitely had an impact on popular culture, but will it make a good movie? Producers di Bonaventura and Pritzker think so, and that’s why they’re adding Space Invaders to their list of 80s throwback/tribute films, which includes G.I. Joe and Transformers and an Asteroids movie also in the works. Read more about it at the Hollywood Reporter.
Ever seriously doubt the authenticity of the end of Donkey Kong, where Mario simply sidesteps the giant ape to free the lovely (if pixel-y) damsel in distress? Yeah, so did Dorkly. This one’s for all of the realists out there.

The Museum of Soviet Arcade Games is a small basement museum in Moscow that houses vintage arcade games from the Soviet era. Anjel Van Slyke and Connal Hughes of A Dangerous Business visited the facility, played its games, and took many pictures.
Engineeer and cartoonist Tim Hunkin created an arcade game that at first appears to be an ATM or banking kiosk. When coins are inserted, the banking poster drops and reveals Wack-A-Banker, giving you an opportunity to take your aggressions out on a group of financially oppressive stereotypes. See more pictures and read how this project came about at Tim’s site. Link -via Everlasting Blort
