Tiny Worlds Inside Altoids Tins

Posted by John Farrier in Art & Design on November 6, 2011 at 12:57 pm

The overarching theme of artist Jim Doran is to “put ideas inside of other objects.” In keeping with this motif, he illustrates tiny pen and ink scenes and layers them inside storage tins. This one, which has seven layers, is called “Muse Ut Vos Postulo Suus.” That means “A Muse When You Need Her.” Need inspiration? Reach inside your pocket.

Instructables user spookylean turned an Altoids mint box into a portable martini kit. This way, he’s prepared for a martini emergency. He writes:

All you will need to be prepared in any emergency is an Altoids or equivalent tin, some tiny bottles (the smallest one is from a miniature Tabasco sauce bottle), a tiny ziploc bag, a folding paper cup (about the easiest origami there is), and the stopper cannibalized from a dollar store water pistol. Oh, and of course gin (I favour Plymouth) and vermouth (Noilly Prat).

Altoids Sours BBQ Grill

Posted by The Nag in Crafts on September 13, 2010 at 4:51 am

This one is powered by a standard-sized charcoal briquette and is capable of cooking a full-size hot dog (cut down to size) or smaller hamburger patties with ease.  It gets mighty hot after it’s fired up so use plenty of caution and keep a large glass of water handy.

The link below provides full instructions for creatively recycling your empty Altoids tins. I’d need to have a dozen of these fired up in order to make a meal but it might be fine if I craved a tiny meaty snack.
