Large Canines and the Little Children Who Love Them

A few weeks ago I featured Giants of the Canine World. Here they are again with some of their most enthusiastic cheerleaders and partners in crime: the kids who grow up with them.

Kid and canine duos are often inseparable. Dogs instinctively know which members of their "pack" need the most gentle protection; that instinct is evident in these sweet photos. See the rest of Bored Panda's article "22 Little Kids And Their Big Dogs" here.

The hardest thing about these adorable pics is that these larger dogs don't last very long. I think it's 8 years max for anything the size of a mastiff or a dane. It is amazing how tender these dogs tend to be with children. it's also really good to have children grow up with dogs so they understand how to approach and be around animals.

I understand your uneasy feeling. You have a point. There was a story about a baby in Ohio getting mauled and killed by his relative's dog just a few days ago.

They're all ever so cute and all that - but I can't help feeling a bit squeamish. There have been so many kids killed or badly mauled by dogs that appeared fine until suddenly they weren't that I'm uneasy. Not that I would perhaps have stopped our kids doing that...but you know...just a bit uneasy.
