While you might think you want your daughters to grow up sweet and agreeable, the real world demands that they be able to take care of themselves. And that’s one of the best things you can teach them. I have one child who has always been a stubborn contrarian. It was frustrating. It was difficult. But as she grew I was also proud of how strong and self-determined she is. She can take care of herself, and that’s worth more than all the affection she could have shown her parents.
