Students Fined For Being Late To Class

A Utah high school is sick and tired of its students being late. East  High School is now fining its students $5 every time they are late to class.  If the kids can't afford the fine, or don't want to pay the fine, they can opt to serve 30 minutes of detention.
School officials say the money raised will go towards paying the teacher who has to stay after school and run the detention.

According to school officials the program is working and the kids are a little more punctual these days.

$5 is a reasonable fine. In high school, I tried my best to be on time, but was late occasionally. I would have payed the $5 dollar fine, but only because my school's detentions were on Saturday, and I celebrate Sabbath on Saturday.
