The Mickey Mouse Version of Optimus Prime

Is it a robot Mickey Mouse that transforms into an Optimus Prime? Or an Optimus Prime that transforms into Mickey Mouse? This would make for a great debate on a first date with that girl from work. Doing so will impress her as to your mental acuity and seriousness.

Optimus Prime Junk Sculpture

Thai sculptors at robot-models created this awesome … and large, Optimus Prime metal sculpture out of junk and found object. The sculpture is over 2 m (~7 feet) tall.

The company said that it will continue to make more Transformers, both the Autobots and the Decepticon characters. These sculptures are sure to transform your living room into a sci-fi geek heaven. (see what I did there?)

Photo: Optimus Prime assembled out of tin cans

optimuscan

I post this for two reasons. One, it’s awesome. The photo’s from Matt Boulton and you can find a desktop wallpaper-sized version here.

Two, I found it at Fanmode, which is my favorite toy news site and which I steal links from regularly. Links I spotted there today include a charming photo of Polly Pocket cheerfully committing vehicular manslaughter and an interview with Eddie Wires, who paints prototype action figures.

*Previously on Neatorama: Here’s a bunch more Optimus Prime links, including an Optimus Prime Statue in Yunnan, China.

LED Keyboard

Because the Optimus Maximus keyboard continues to be a vaporware (They’re supposedly to release it in March 2007!), here’s something else from Korea: a keyboard with programmable LED lighting system!

A software that lets you customize the way the LEDs behave is also included. You can make the keys glow only when your hit them, create your own patterns, or simply set it to glow in one single color of your choice.

Optimus Prime Statue in Yunnan, China.

No one knows who built this 40-foot sculpture of Transformer’s Optimus Prime [wiki] in Yunnan, China – or why. From the website:

Deep in the mountainous regions of southern China, in a province named Yunnan, or “over the clouds”, by Emperor Wu in 109 BC due to its remoteness from the capital, there is a 40 ft statue of the new great Chinese leader, Optimus Prime. My pilgrimage to find him wasn’t without trial, but as they say:

Nothing of real value is easy.
