Yes, this is the most epic Mario-themed bathroom ever created. No, I still don’t recommend trying to crawl through any of the pipes in this house to go looking for extra lives and gold coins. All you will find is a terrible smell and tons of bacteria.
Oh, and just joking about the trash can, it just happens to be sitting in a bad part of the room for the theme to work. As it turns out, the rest of the room is decorated with Donkey Kong and Pac Man, you can see more pictures over at the link.

With the movie coming to theaters soon, there is a renewed interest in the board game Battleship. If you are cutthroat about winning, you’ll want to check out a tutorial on Battleship by Nick Berry of DataGenetics, the guy who brought us A Better Hangman Strategy. Be warned: there is math involved.
Mathematically, the chances of playing a perfect game with random firing are easy to calculate and are:
355,687,428,096,000 / 2,365,369,369,446,553,061,560,941,772,800,000
(This equates to, on average, once in every 6,650,134,872,937,201,800 games!)
But you can raise those offs with …more math! And lots of graphs. Link -Thanks, Nick!

If you’re a geek who loves both alcohol and gaming, then you’ll certainly love Arkeg. The system is pretty sweet as it comes with 69 games, a 5 lb CO2 tank, a 24″ hi-def LCD, a sweet sound sound system and, of course, a nice big cabinet to store the keg of your choice. On the other hand, for almost $4000, a few six packs and an X Box could be just as good.

Show your fellow cosplayers that you mean business with this DIY Gears Of War replica shotgun, which lets you load actual shells and scare the crap out of anyone suckered in to believing it actually fires live ammo.
Built by Mike Iverson of Blind Squirrel Props, the end result is stunningly realistic, and Mike was kind enough to include exhaustive step by step photos of the process, and basic plans so you can build one of these bad boys for yourself.
Now that’s one good looking boomstick!

YouTube user kss5095 decided to get creative and show his love of video games at the same time with his final project for Advanced Mechatronics at Penn State, so he built a fully functioning turret like you’d find in the video game series Portal.
The turret is so sweet that it even has a soothing voice recording, which lures you out of hiding so it can blast you with laser guided NERF missiles.
This guy has a long career ahead of him in either animatronics or engineering weapons for the military, but for now he has the ultimate home defense system at his disposal, that is once he upgrades to live rounds!

The video game series Dragon Age is dark fantasy at it’s finest, full of murder, intrigue, magic and, of course, dragons.
This clip from the upcoming Dragon Age animated series by Funimation looks pretty cool, but I don’t know how I feel about the cheesy spell casting sound effects, or how easy they make it look to defeat a dragon.
But if it stays dark, bloody and full of action then I’m on board.

ShanesDominoez and Dieckdomino put together 30,000 dominoes that fall and evoke classic Nintendo products. And they have some pretty elaborate structures to knock down! -via Geeks Are Sexy
No, you’re not looking at a secret level in a Super Mario game. This is a picture of a medieval illuminated manuscript with a touch of photoshoppery applied. Carl Pyrdum, a medieval scholar, uses our friendly plumber to explain the artistic norms of the medium:
In order to keep the man and his goat in the middle from falling right on through the bottom of the page, the artist draws in little patches of ground beneath them.** Mario, no stranger to platforms that hang in the air as if bolted to the background, would feel right at home with this arrangement.

Michael is a Scottish artist and blogger who plays Draw Something, the popular game where people guess words from other’s drawings. Only Michael always draws Hitler. Hitler usually has nothing to do with the target word, so the words “ignore Hitler” are also included. He’s done this so much that he has posted his drawings on a blog, appropriately entitled Ignore Hitler. Link -via The Daily What
Yeah, it may look cool, but anyone who ever actually played the game knows that this is just plain silly. You never have four blocks falling at the same time, come on now!

If pinball is great and Portal is great, then a Portal pinball machine is simply amazing. Unfortunately, there aren’t any commercially available…yet. That didn’t stop Reddit user iliveon though -he simply made his own pinball machine based on the popular game.
These three gentlemen perform a medley of songs from the Super Mario Bros. 3 soundtrack in style, and the addition of a standup bass is a nice touch.
Of course it never hurts to have players in your trio that are extremely talented and willing to wear paper costume accessories in the name of showmanship. This song makes me want to jump for joy!

Believe it or not, this picture is of a birthday cake! Alduin is a dragon character from the video game world of Skyrim. Vera at Baking Obsession made this cake for her son Tim’s birthday.
It was made of four 13?x18? sheets of chocolate cake, soaked in strawberry syrup, and sandwiched with bittersweet strawberry ganache (5 lbs of chocolate). Alduin’s core is made of modeling chocolate. His scales, horns, and spikes are made from gum paste. The double-sided wings are half-and-half (fondant/gum paste). His eyes are Swarovsky crystals.
The final decorations were applied with an air brush. Awesome! See lots more photos at her site. Link -via The Daily What Geek
Since the housing market bubble popped, it’s been really hard to earn a living as a realtor. It’s a buyers’ market, and they’ve got to make hard sales pitches. Take this realtor, for example, who is trying to offload homes in Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter, Donkey Kong and Q*bert.

This here’s a brand spanking new animated short based on Blizzard’s upcoming video game Diablo III, and it’s directed by Peter Chung (of Aeon Flux fame) and animated by Titmouse (of Metalocalypse and Venture Bros. fame)!!
It’s a bloody, action packed short that left me longing to watch a Diablo animated series. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to settle for some epic gaming sessions when the game is released next week.

Princess Peach stopped smelling the roses long enough to institute sweeping reforms throughout the Mushroom Kingdom, which have been set to music and accompanied by animation that looks like it was drawn by a nervous Koopa.
It’s more fun than having a plumber jump on your head, and it’s so cute and catchy that the tune will lurk around inside your head like a Shy Guy stalking around Bowser’s castle!

Mr. Potato Head has been altered. The results are not pretty. Flickr user Ginger Troll is responsible for turning him into a Big Daddy from BioShock.

Chris Lange’s collages show characters from the classic boxing video game Punch-Out!! Appropriately, his source material is torn-up copies of Nintendo Power magazine.
If you think of yourself as a serious gamer, yet you’ve never played the 1993 Super Nintendo classic Star Fox then you owe it to yourself to hunt down the emulator ROM and give it a whirl because it is an awesome gaming experience.
Youtuber Rickonami is obviously a fan of Star Fox, since he an a few friends created this shiny new intro sequence as a tribute to the game’s greatness, complete with updated 3d models and visual effects.

This cake is not a lie. The 14-year old blogger behind Life in a Day got this awesome birthday cake designed to look like the one at the end of Portal.

Love Angry Bird but wish that there's a bit more you can do than fling digital birds around on your smartphone? Well, now you can fling your body around in this Angry Birds Land theme park in Finland.
Angry Birds Land includes 12 rides, an adventure course and themed food outlets (lots of pig?). It's aimed at families and young children. Angry Birds developer Rovio helped the park's staff design the experience.
Finnish-ing touches are still being put in place: gamers will soon be able to visit the "Magic Place" attraction, where guests can somehow upgrade their mobile Angry Birds games.
Tom Phillips of EuroGamer has the story and more pics: Link - via Geekosystem
If you can't make it to Finland, you can still get some neat Angry Birds stuff from the NeatoShop!
Chet Phillips designs wild and amusing playing cards, as you’ve seen here before. His latest collection is “of lively monkey and ape characters exhibiting a vast range of professions and historical simian significance.” You can buy them, too! Link

Clair McMillan made this lovely stained glass coat of arms showing the Master Chief’s helmet and rifles. She writes, “Hard core fans should also notice the symbol engraved into the butt of the guns.” Would anyone like to explain what they mean?

To
say that Kevin Birrell loves to play Tetris is an understatement. He has
spent more than 1,000 hours playing what others tell him is "just
a game."
You can find dedication in all kinds of places. The office. The football field.
The glossy, old-school arcade tucked in the back of Ballard’s Full Tilt Ice Cream.
Eighteen-year-old Kevin Birrell is here most every night. The University of Washington freshman is one of just 5 people — 2 outside Japan — to have achieved the World Grand Master title in Tetris: The Grand Master 3, the latest and toughest game in the 28-year-old franchise’s most challenging series.
Birrell, who will reprise a talk he gave at last week’s TEDxUofW at the next Seattle Startup Weekend in May, guesses he’s played more than 1,000 hours of what people like to tell him is “just a game.” But the fun of Tetris, like the other arcade games he’s conquered, isn’t in the play. It’s in a hungry, stop-at-nothing quest for achievement.
Mónica Guzmán of GeekWire has the story (and a video clip of Kevin playing Tetris, at a level that can only be described as inhuman): Link
From the screenshot, it’s easy to get mislead into thinking this video just shows the automaton at work, but even better, it actually shows the device being created so you can even make your own delightful toy.

I’m sure everyone has heard of, and played, one of the original hit computer games Oregon Trail.
But did you ever wish the game had more action, more suspense, and random encounters with zombies?
If you answered yes then your dreams have come true, thanks to game company The Men Who Wear Many Hats and their new game Organ Trail.
It’s a lot like Oregon Trail, except you have to make difficult decisions like ‘should I kill an infected party member?’ and ‘should I shoot the zombie and risk other zombies hearing the shot?’
It’s perfect for those who like a lot of reading, and old timey graphics, with their video gaming experience.
