This week’s Caption Monkey photo comes from the previously mentioned flickr pool, which you can join here. I’ll be sending Kevin a surprise since I’m using his photo.
You can win something too! Submit your caption in the comments below (enter as often as you’d like), and if you are the funniest (as judged by me), I’ll send you an original drawing of a monkey of your choice.
Good luck, I’ll post the winner in approximately 24 hours.
UPDATE
We have a winner! It’s Pitacoatl with “This summer blockbuster: ‘The Kids who stare at men, who stare at goats, who stare at grass.’”
I would totally see that movie. Thanks for playing everyone! See you next week!
Alex has been kind enough to hand me the keys to the weekly Caption Monkey contest, so I thought I’d start this party with a photo of my own. I won’t provide the context for this one though, because I’m intrigued to see what our intrepid crew of comical photo captioneers will come up with.
The rules are simple: the best caption wins a monkey drawing by yours truly, the ever-lovin’ Ape Lad. Place your caption in the comment section. One caption per comment, please, though you may enter as many times as you’d like. You have approximately 24 hours to bring the funny.
If you have a photo you think would be a good candidate for this contest, add it to the group pool here on flickr. If I use your photo, I’ll send you a surprise!
UPDATE!
We have a winner, and it’s #28, Seppukku, with “I’m telling you guys, my infallible plan will totally get us in the ladies bathroom!” Congratulations, and thanks for playing everyone! See you next week!

Today’s Neatorama and Hobotopia Caption Monkey game comes via National Geographic’s The Daily Dozen (October 2009 – Week 1), the always excellent user-submitted gallery of photographs curated by photo editor Susan Welchman.
This photo was taken by William Lascelles who wrote "My parents live very close to the city airport and every other year they host an air show. This year the Blue Angels were the highlight and were flying over the house during performances. I took my father’s dog outside and made him pose!"
Your task is simple: caption the photograph above. The best/funniest comment will win a Caption Monkey, courtesy of Adam "Ape Lad" Koford. You can enter as many as you’d like below, but please only one caption per comment.

Photo: Vince Lauro
Pigs may never fly, but they certainly can swim! Vince Lauro won National Geographic Traveler’s Great Outdoors Photo Contest with this awesome photo of the Caribbean swimming pig. From the Intelligent Travel blog:
As the first mate on a 118-foot motor yacht, Vince Lauro has the opportunity to continuously travel across the Caribbean. This photograph was taken near a small key famous for the "swimming pigs." A colony of pigs lives on the key, and they often swim near visiting boats. To capture this clear image Lauro said, "I had to lure this pig into an undisturbed area with its favorite food: fresh watermelon."

Today’s Neatorama and Hobotopia’s Caption Monkey hails all the way from China – it’s about a mountain that’s laying an egg. First the story, via the always amusing Ananova’s Quirkies section:
Officials at Gulu village, Guizhou province, claim a cliff of Gandeng Mountain has laid more than 100 eggs, reports Guizhou Metropolis News.
They claim the eggs, as big as car tyres, appear in ’sockets’ in the cliff around every two years.
Yang Shengjia, director of the local tourism bureau, said: "Another mountain egg is expected to be laid soon.
"If people, like visitors, can have long enough patience, they may view the astonishing scene of the mountain laying an egg."
Funniest caption will win a black and white custom Monkey drawing, courtesty of Adam "Ape Lad" Koford. Contest rules are simple: place your caption in the comment section, one caption per comment, please. You can enter as many funny ones as you’d like.

And "You shall not pass" is taken, mmkay? Oh, by the way, that phrase is a variation of a World War I propaganda slogan "They shall not pass" made famous in the Battle of Verdun on the Western Front. J.R.R. Tolkien, the author of The Lord of the Rings, was himself a soldier who fought during World War I.
Be sure to check out Adam’s blog for inspiration. Good luck!

Every month, National Geographic publishes a very neat photo gallery called Vision of Earth. This particular one, from the June 2009 selection (third pic, you can see the uncensored version there – warning: clear shot of the behind of a naked, 69-year-old man):
Belarus—Naked on an 18°F day, Valentsin Tolkachev clears an icy canal for swimming. The 69-year-old started the Optimalists—a Minsk-based club with 200-some members—in 1989 to promote hale activities in rural settings.

Yes, your eyes aren’t deceiving you. That’s Nancy Reagan sitting on Mr. T’s lap (Santa T?), giving him a smooch, at a White House Christmas party in 1983. The First Lady actually requested Mr. T come to the party dressed as Santa Claus. This photo was printed in countless newspapers and magazines around the world.

Photo: Geoff Pingree / National Geographic Traveler Photo Contest
W00t! It’s time for Neatorama and Hobotopia’s Caption Monkey game – but first, here’s the story behind the photo, titled "Behold". It’s the Grand Prize winner of National Geographic’s Traveler’s "World in Focus" photo contest, and taken by Geoff Pingree of Oberlin, Ohio (he won a 15-day trip for two to Antarctica aboard the National Geographic Endeavor, which makes our prizes here on Neatorama look downright puny in comparison!):
Pingree, a professor of Cinema Studies and English at Oberlin College, took this photograph at Madrid’s Prado Museum, which was staging theatrical performances inspired by masterworks by Spanish artists. "The photo shows performers playing Spanish King Philip IV and his second wife, Mariana of Austria," he said.
Now, on to the contest. The funniest caption will win an original Laugh-Out-Loud cat comic by Adam Koford. Place your caption in the comment section. One caption per comment, please, but you can enter as many as you’d like.

Under the direction of her trainer, Sara the Walrus grips the brass instrument between her flippers and blasts out a note.
Russian trainer Sergiy has also taught her to strike a nonchalant pose, leaning on a worktop with one flipper under her chin and looking bored.
Sara’s skills at mimicking humans extend to dressing up as a railway platform conductor and blowing a whistle. (Source)

The photograph was voted one of National Geographic Magazine’s Top Shots of 2008.
Now on to the game: your task, should you choose to accept it, is to caption the photo. The funniest caption will win an original Laugh-Out-Loud Cat comic by Adam Koford. One caption per comment, please, but you can enter as many times as you like.

For today’s Neatorama and Hobotopia’s Caption Monkey game, you get to caption this cute photo of Lisa and Robb’s cat Linguine:
Lisa and I have been having a chuckle over the thought that this picture of our dear little Linguine is, unbeknown to us, an internet meme – a fad, which becomes almost inexplicably popular on the web.
This picture was taken about two years ago. I remember at the time, it was a major achievement for me to stand and balance well enough to take a picture while holding a camera in one hand and a bamboo-skewered strawberry in another and convince a cat we like to call "Fidget" to cooperate.
