The Worst Mistakes People Make When They Fly

While the ever more intrusive TSA screenings, horrible treatment by airlines and increased tension among passengers have made flying less comfortable than ever before it's still a necessary travel evil.

So if you have to fly, for business or otherwise, you might as well make sure the trip is as painless as possible, so don't wear uncomfortable shoes or bring devices on the plane that rely on a WiFi signal.

The shoes will help you get across the airport in a flash, in case you have to change terminals or catch a flight, and devices that aren't reliant on WiFi will help you stay busy, or entertained, on any flight.

Another commonly overlooked element of flight comfort is seat location, which many travelers don't bother to choose while booking their ticket.

Leave the choice up to the airline and you may end up in the back row with no incline, forced to "hang out" with the people who constantly hover outside the bathroom.

Four or five of these could be condensed into wear comfortable clothes for the flight and bring a change of professional clothes in your carry-on. Traveling with a friend as a teenager, her bags got lost and she had to borrow clothes for the next few days. It was no big deal at the time, but the experience taught me to always put my essentials for the next day or so in my carry-on just in case.

#3 shouldn't be "don't dress down", but rather "don't assume your checked baggage will always make on the same flight you do." This advice would also address "Not bringing back-up cosmetics in your carryon". And of course several pieces of advice assume that the flyer has money, which makes sense for a Forbes reader.

#10 - Booking an isle seat on a long flight
#11 - Booking a window seat on a long flight
So on long flights book the middle seat?

Little shocked that one of them isn't go to the bathroom prior to boarding. Was on a 2 hour flight the was pretty bumpy turbulence to whole time. One person came out of the bathroom and I was very glad I wasn't sitting near the person.
