The Call of a Mountain Lion

Jason Craig caught a cougar on a camera trap on a cold January morning. Listen as he sings you the song of his people. Or cats.

Not as intimidating as you expected? You might laugh, but next time you are in the wilderness and hear what you think is a bird, you may be in the sights of an American apex predator. -via Digg

As I have said before in these comments, my house neighbors a mountain lion trail. That sound is a regular occurrence. Had no idea it was from an apex predator.

I wonder if it's actually mimicking birds. Cats do not meow in the wild, they're taught to do that by humans and our voices. There's speculation that they are trying to copy our sound and communicate. It's possible that Mt. Lions have learned this sound to lure prey? Total speculation on my part but when it walked away from the camera and you hear the cry in the distance it sounds so much like a bird I thought it couldn't be coincidence.
