Zachary Copfer is both a microbiologist and an artist. He discovered that exposing a Petri dish of bacteria to radiation spurs their growth, so he developed a technique for recreating famous portraits using bacteria as a medium. We posted an item about those works last year.
Taking another look, what really grabs my imagination is Copfer's page on the "Albasaurus." Copfer was intrigued by the work of Eduardo Kac and his GFP (Glowing Fluorescent Protein) rabbit named Alba.
Copfer created his own “Albasaurus.” Although the story of falling in love with the creature is to be taken with a grain of salt, the accompanying photo series featuring a bacteriograph of the transgenic Albasaurus is a real hoot!
