Pullman Rail Car Travel

Pullman Rail Cars are coming back, as old cars are being refurbished and connected to Amtrak’s City of New Orleans train. The Pullman Company split and diversified and all but disappeared in the mid-20th century. But Ed Ellis, head of Pullman Rail Journeys, is bringing back the romance and nostalgia of Pullman cars, including sleeper cars, on a journey between Chicago and New Orleans that began last year. I rode a train from Kansas City to Oklahoma City in 1976 that had a dining car and a lounge. No sleeper car, as the trip wasn’t that long. But train travel has to be the best way to go- much less hassle than driving, more room than buses or planes. You just enjoy the countryside and the amenities until you get to your destination! -via Metafilter
