The Last 19th-century People

How many people born in the 1800s are still alive? Five. South London resident Grace Jones died Thursday morning at the age of 113, leaving no one in the UK born before 1900. Now there are only five people left in the world who have lived in three different centuries. Three are from the United States, one is in Japan, and one lives in Italy. This does not count folks who claim to be older, but have no documented proof.

Wikipedia lists 65 verified supercentenarians, or people who have lived at least 110 years. The vast majority of those were born in the early 1900s.

People who were born in the 19th century have seen changes in the world that were unimaginable at that time. My children were born in 1997 and 1998, so I tell them they have the opportunity to live in three different centuries if they take care of their health and safety. They may see changes we can't imagine now! -via mental_floss

My Grandpa was born in 1900! Not alive today. He died in '73, and it seems like forever ago. This article made me think, I wonder what he would have done with all these years, how the world would have changed, then it hit me, "Fishing. He'd be out fishing."
