Birthright Citizenship

This map shows which countries of the world confer citizenship automatically on children born in the country. As you can see, it's a New World concept. Citizenship laws vary in the rest of the world, but in most cases, you get citizenship from your parents. A commenter at TYWKIWDBI explained how this affected a relative, who was born in Austria of Russian and Czechoslovakian parents.
