Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine

We have all seen the so called Perpetual Energy Machines running around on the internet. Whether an actual perpetual energy machine is possible or not (I think not), a perpetual energy wasting machine doesn’t seem so farfetched. I mean just look at my roommate- he wastes an awful lot of energy with all that couch sitting he does.

“Perpetual Energy Wasting Machine” is a rope and pulley mechanism, installed in the staircase of the WRO Art Center in Wroclaw, Poland. The mechanism connects the sliding doors of the elevator in one floor with the elevator call button on another floor. Operating in two directions on the first and on the second floor, the contraption automatically moves the elevator cabin in an infinite loop between those two levels.

I think my favorite part of this has to be the little calculator that estimates the Kilojoules wasted by the machine. After the results print they go right into the trash (more “waste” for you).

The machine won’t run forever, I have a feeling the people in the office will eventually want their elevator back, but it will perpetually waste energy until someone dismantles it or they stop paying their power bill. Link
