How Is The New Neatorama Doing So Far?

Earlier this month, we launched the new version of Neatorama. It wasn't just a redesign - we actually built a new blogging engine from the ground up.

Our intrepid engineer Rommel has been fixing bugs and improving things. We've got some more improvements on the to-do list, but I wanted to check in with you guys and ask how we're doing so far.

Got any feedback? Love the new design? Hate it? Let us know in the comment section! Found a bug? Please email us at bugs AT neatorama DOT com. Thank you!

The New Neatorama is ...

I like the new inline comments. I just wish the page wouldn't scroll up when I click the [+] button.

Oh, and clicking "vote" above using Chrome gave me a popup complaining that I was trying to vote twice, then the vote results showed. (Clicked [+], started typing this comment, selected option 1, clicked "Vote", saw a popup warning me I could only vote once, showed me the results.)

I use Firefox V14.01 and up until today had a real problem with scrolling; it was always very slow, as if something else was loading in the page. It was so disturbing, I cut down my Neatorama view to one-a-day.

BUT..... it seems that now the problem has been fixed. Scrolling has returned to normal. THANK YOU!!

Well, for the most part it is much better. My only issues are that there have been 2 polls and when I vote both have said I already voted. The second issue, I can load all comments EXCEPT the ones on this post.

The new design is terrible for me. Javascript makes the site impossibly slow on my computer. When I turn off Javascript, text is still overlapping and pictures are out of place. Why is the comments link so tiny at the end of each post? I first thought that comments were no longer a part of the site. The new header is too dark and bland. I liked Neatorama's friendly, bright, lightweight style. Why oh why do the comments have to load? Without Javascript, you can't see them, and you can't make a comment. Since when do comments require registration? I don't remember making a password, and the password retrieval button doesn't work with or without Javascript. The robot logo at the bottom covers the "submit comment" button! And most frustrating of all, without Javascript, YOU CAN'T VOTE ON THIS POLL. I appreciated Neatorama for being one of the last sites on the Net to maintain a simple, HTML look that even people with old Macs like me can enjoy. You're trying to make the site posh and modern at the expense of accessibility. You have favored form over function.

OK, here is something. I get email from the neatobot saying someone replied to my comment, I can read the comment in the mail. There is an option to reply to that comment through the mail, but after sending the reply it does not show up here.
