Popeye Fan Film Yams What It Yams

(YouTube Link)

Converting the Popeye cartoon into a watchable film is a daunting task, so I give the fans that made this short an A for effort.

But why did they decide to cast an underwear model as Popeye? And what's with the cheesy dialog and unnecessary use of expletives? It seems like they're trying too hard to make Popeye edgy, which is a bit off base in my opinion.

That being said, I applaud the idea of making another movie about the spinach munchin', Bluto punchin' sailor man, as long as the makers don't go out of their way to give Popeye sex appeal.

I appreciate the A for effort. And what an effort it was.
I will answer your questions really quick.

-Why did they decide to cast an underwear model as Popeye?

I'm no underwear model. I played Popeye because it was easier at the time and this teaser was to be shown in front of another film I was apart of. Also I'm a huge fan and have always wanted to play him.

-What’s with the cheesy dialog and unnecessary use of expletives?

The dialogue wasn't meant to be Shakespeare. It was meant to be quick and just give you an idea of what the situation was before they stepped outside. There's one curse word in the whole 3 min. lol thats a weird thing to complain about. Especially if you read the original Popeye comics, he himself cursed. A lot.

-It seems like they’re trying too hard to make Popeye edgy, which is a bit off base in my opinion.

I wasn't trying to make Popeye edgy, I produced a vision of him that I had/have and will continue with it. Popeye like many characters can be introduced in many different ways. This is just one.

Their won't be trying to make Popeye a sex symbol but he does live in the modern world in my take on the character. So we will see changes in not just him but the rest of the characters as well. Yet They will be recognizable and true to each of the characters.

Please read the interview linked in the description box of the video to get a better understanding of what was filmed and what is planned.
Thanks to all for watching.
