Espresso Soda

A new drink is set to hit Japan at the end of next month. But in the land used to seeing strange and bold new flavors, this one may be a bit too strange.

Behold, the Suntory Espressoda, which "combines the rich taste of espresso coffee with the refreshing feel of soda." Link

What do you think, Neatoramanauts? Is carbonated coffee a "yum" or a "yuck"?

In the 1980s I used to get a coffee soda in Massachusetts, I think made in New Hampshire - no milk. a bit less sugar than Coke. But then it vanished from the shelves. o

Coke Blak wasn't bad at all. I do wish some company would put out cold espresso/coffee drink that wasn't loaded with sugary milk. (As it is, I usually just make my own by brewing a pot the night before and sticking in in the fridge.)

Back in the 1980s there was a bottled carbonated espresso called Bibbicaffe(sp?) Had some on a restaurant in Seattle. it was served over ice with a lemon wedge. It was great stuff. Probably went out of business, as I haven't seen anything like it in the last 10 years or so.
I'd give this Suntory stuff a try.

Espresso soda is not that bad.

The Manhattan one is a little less flavorful than you'd expect. -Probably the preservatives and the clear bottle. Needs to be more intense and smoky, but otherwise ok.
