What Is It? game 230

Here it is, time for our collaboration with the always amusing What Is It? Blog. Tell us what this thing is, if you know. If you don't, make a wild guess!

Place your guess in the comment section below. One guess per comment, please, though you can enter as many as you'd like. Post no URLs or weblinks, as doing so will forfeit your entry. Two winners: the first correct guess and the funniest (albeit ultimately wrong) guess will win T-shirt from the NeatoShop.

Please write your T-shirt selection alongside your guess. If you don't include a selection, you forfeit the prize, okay? May we suggest the Science T-Shirt, Funny T-Shirt and Artist-Designed T-Shirts?

For additional pictures of this object from different angles, check out the What Is It? Blog. Have fun and good luck!

Update: nobody knew going into the game what the correct answer is. Rob at the What Is It? blog investigated all the plausible guesses and found that it is a pipe flaring tool, with some pieces missing. Craig Clayton was the first with the correct answer, and wins a t-shirt from the NeatoShop! But we also have a t-shirt for Straight_Flush, who thought he had it figured out.
Well, let me tell you the truth. It was hard to find out what this amazing piece of metal is. And after a lot of hard work I found out that it is “pic2592a”.

If you don’t believe me, just hover your mouse pointer on top of it and see for yourself.

Yeah, that wins a t-shirt for the funniest answer! Thanks to everyone who played along. See the answers for all of this week's mystery items at the What Is It? blog.

I'm pretty sure they use these to drill precise holes in coconuts in order to make them look like bowling balls- you see them in all the cartoons.

Gentlemen this is why we tell you "if your going to get freaky wrap the little guy", because when the Doctor pulls this out it is not going to be fun.

I would like to be just like the men that get to discover just what the Doctor plans to do with this tool. They did not know what they were getting and neither should I. Any random XL tee please.

Some kind of a swaging tool. However, I suspect it's to flare the tip of a bolt or stud head so the nut can't back out. Just whack the mushroom head, and the cone point flares the tip of the threaded part. If you were joining girders in your skyscraper, you'd want to know the wind-flexing of your building won't back out or otherwise loosen your joints.

It's a "Pinball Wizard," used by high-stakes pinball players. Since most pinball machines have plungers with too much play in them for the high score. The serious players clamp this to the existing plunger for that added control on the new ball.

Its a stock guage marker. However, back when I was busting gangs in the 30's I was in charge of 'interveiwing' suspects. If they began to get difficult, I'd take that out of my pocket and set it on the table. Then I'd tell my partner to hold his arms while I got his pants down. In a minute they'd be singing like a bird.

A log splitter for very tiny logs. Or perhaps pencils.

Retract the pointed plunger. Insert the tiny log. Screw down the thumbscrew to hold the log in place. Then hit the plunger with a hammer, driving the point into the end of the mini-log, splintering it.

I believe it is a FLaring Tool BLock for making single flares on copper or steel tubing. The clamp block shoe is missing and the tool is to be struck with a hammer as most tools now use a screw thread.

I guess it is a movable dead stop for some kind of machinery or gauge, the position may be locked by the square head screw. The plunger could be for locking the dead stop at predefined positios where the rail it rides on is provided with respective holes. Just asking myself if there was an pointer plate fastened to the dead stop opposite to the square head screw.
