Land of 1,000 Dances

(YouTube link)

Elaine Balden and Bobby Burgess demonstrated the hot dances of the 1960s when they performed "Land of 1,000 Dances" on The Lawrence Welk Show in 1981. Compare and contrast with the hit 1966 version by Wilson Pickett, if you're not familiar with the song. -via Buzzfeed

1981? Didn't know the Lawrence Welk show was still on then. But the fact that an uber-white M/F dance team slowed down the tempo on a 1960's song to dance to it (in body-hiding costumes) is exactly what I remember about the show.

I love the looks of disgust on some of the audience members at the end.
You can almost hear them say Those hippies are ruining the show! Bring back Myron and his accordion!

Being hep never really fit with Lawrence Welk's audience, but the band was pretty cool. Check out their version of One Toke Over The Line.

Myron almost choked trying to keep a straight face.

I watched and laughed at this, then went to YouTube to get the embed code, and was shocked to see "As seen on Miss Cellania." I had posted it about a year ago and then forgot!
