This Week at Neatorama

Hey, this is a milestone, one which means nothing to anyone but me. It's the 100th "This Week at Neatorama" post! Nobody has told me whether these weekend posts have been any use at all to readers, but they help me to sum up the accomplishments of the past week and organize our exclusive content before archiving it. Occasionally, we have something important to announce here, or some behind-the-scenes secrets to pass along. In case you didn't know, this column is also your chance to sound off in the comments about Neatorama itself, if you want to tell us something that isn't specific to a particular post. We want to hear your comments, suggestions, feedback, criticism, and kudos if you have any. So here's what happened at Neatorama this week.

Jill Harness rounded up 20 Great Examples of Gloriously Geeky Graffiti.

She also posted The Weirdest Tax Deductions Ever Submitted on Monday, just before the U.S. income tax deadline.

Eddie Deezen gave us The Real-life Inspirations for 17 Simpsons Characters.

Street Songs: The Hits of Sesame Street appeared courtesy of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

The Annals of Improbable Research told us about Oxydative Stress, and how it contributed to the fall of the Third Reich.

Mental_floss magazine gave us 10 Secrets from the Wonderful World of Disney.

Over at our Spotlight Blog, we had some gorgeous photographs from the NatGeo expedition going on right now in the post Everest 2012.

Oh, and we had giveaways!

In the What Is It? game this week, the tool shown is a horseshoe calk sharpener, which can used without removing the shoe from the horse’s foot. A calk is a spike that is used in icy conditions. See the patent here. And guess what? NO ONE came even close. But LostCrichton summed up that confusion by saying, “Don’t quite reckon I know but it keeps the missus happy.” As the funniest answer, that one wins a t-shirt! Thanks to everyone for playing this week. Find out the answers to all of this week’s items at the What Is It? blog.

And that's not all the winners!

Alex got a promotional box and asked everyone to Guess What’s Inside The Avengers Box! Up for grabs were items from the box and more from the NeatoShop. Congratulations to the winners: kantoboy, ladybuggs, OneManWolfPack, Ben McLain, Charlotte, and Gabriel!

But wait, there's more!

Congratulations to the winners of The Tokyoflash Treasure Hunt #19: green_spurs, DZPM, and Justine!

The post with the most comments this week (besides the giveaways) was Police Handcuffed Kindergartener for Throwing a Tantrum. In second place was Do You Pre-Rinse Your Dishes? and tied for third was The Hobbit May Change How We Watch Movies and Stop Taking This Picture!

After you catch up on these posts, you may want to browse through The Best of Neatorama, where we have feature articles going back six seven years! Also tell your friends about the great gift items at the NeatoShop, the business that supports the blog.
