Beyond the Borders of Postage Stamps

Molly Rausch takes classic postage stamps and imagines the scenes that lay beyond their limited scope. She begins by pasting the stamp on paper and then adding watercolors and gouaches. Rausch does no research on the stamps, so her works are exercises in pure speculation (as the flying saucer over the White House suggests).

Those prices are pretty expensive, for a 4" painting. One of them only has empty green space painted around the stamp, and she's charging $100, for a green painted 4" square.

I'm dizzy! What? There is no subject besides what was already in the stamp. Where's The Justin Bieber, or 8 bit game character? Or spaceship?
