A Real Toe Thumb

When James Byrne accidentally cut off his left thumb in an accident, little did he know that it was the first step in the path to becoming the world's thumbwrestling champion.

No, I kid. Actually, James needed a working thumb for his work, so he had his big toe grafted on. Now, he has a working "thumb" he nicknamed "Toby":

He said that people reacted to it in very different ways.
'Some think it's really funny while others are a bit disgusted by it,' he said.
'When I meet people, they ask "what did you do to your thumb, it's so big and swollen". They can't believe it when I tell them it's actually my toe instead.

'My son thinks it's great, I showed it to all of his mates and became a bit of a celebrity in the playground for a while.'

One of my parents friends lost his thumb in WWII. They used one of his middle toes to replace his thumb. I remember trying not to stare when watching him light a match and then his cigarette.

Hmmm, maybe I went to school with TomVee? There was a girl in one of my classes in 1987 that was a year older and had only toes for fingers on one hand and a couple toes on the other.
