Animals Reflected in Water

I wouldn't exactly call it narcissism, but animals like to look at their reflections just like people do. And when a photographer is there to capture the moment, you get double the subjects! See 16 photographs of animals and their reflections in water in a gallery at Environmental Graffiti. Link

I don't think any of those photographs represent an animal looking at its own reflection in the water. The animals themselves are reflected, from the photographers perspective, but not from their own.

The famous "dot test" checks if an animal is aware of its own reflection (as its own reflection) and only 3 species have passed this test Chimps, Dolphins and Humans. Most animals are completely unaroused by their reflection. This one is probably just staring at a shiney bit of light.

@Ryan S:

There are quite a few more species of animals that have passed the mirror test.

In fact, all of the great apes past the test; orcas, elephants and magpies also pass the test.

Other animals are able to pass a variation of that test, such as pigeons.
