Can You Explain This Photo?

The smiles, the stares, the cigars ... and the epic mustaches. Does anyone care to explain this vintage photograph taken by Knauer Gy. in 1910 Romania? Link

And please would someone more hip than yours truly bring that mustache hair back in style? (Though not this way, mmkay?)

Probably taken during the great Romanian chair famine.

Didn't that happen during the early 1900's?

They didn't let it slow them down thou, so kudo's to resilient people.

Christine- The weight of the sitter is placed mostly on the knee of the sittee, and transferred straight down to the floor through the feet. Very little (if any) of the weight is transferred to the next person. This can be done in a circle, if it's well-coordinated. So the guy in the chair won't feel like there are 5 people on his lap. He's no more uncomfortable than the second guy in line.

Don't know anything about the photo, but I can tell you the studio was located in Bra?ov (in the region of Transylvania): http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Bra%C5%9Fov

That must have been popular back at the turn of the century. I have seen more than on vintage photo of people doing that, including British royalty.
