A Man, A Plan, A 50-Ton Giant Robot

In the aftermath of the devastating Great Hanshin Earthquake of 1995, the Japanese city of Kobe needed something to symbolize its recovery and inspire the masses. Enter Tetsujin-28-go! (or his English-translation counterpart, Gigantor) to the rescue.
