Rudolph Hits a Snag

(YouTube link)

Rudolph the Red-nose Reindeer got into a bit of trouble Saturday when he was impaled on a traffic light pole during the 2010 Dominion Christmas Parade in Richmond, Virginia. Link -Thanks, Comedy Wizard!

@marishka - I actually live in Richmond home of the parade. I don't know if you are being serious or not but the parade recently changed sponsors and had changed the name to Holiday parade but so many Richmonders were offended by the lack of the word Christmas they put it back in the name. http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/2010/oct/06/xmas06-ar-544713/

Ummm, it was a joke. I see there are a few Grinches here. Oops, I guess that would be the wrong term -- you are here to save Christmas, not steal it :-)

There was an article on "The Daily Show" last night about people being terribly offended about the removal of "Christmas" in the name of a parade in Oklahoma -- when all the planners wanted to do was be more inclusive of other beliefs (you know, Christians aren't the only ones who have religious celebrations at this time of year). The offended certainly didn't seem to embrace the message of the season: peace and love. @Richard, your link shows that this is not an isolated incidence. At least the Rabbi is tolerant of other people's beliefs.

The Parade organizers are to blame on this one. The route needs to be checked ahead of time for overhead obstructions. And nothing over a certain height will be allowed. In this case the balloon should not have been allowed. Most parades have these restrictions. If there are and turns in the parade route they also have length restrictions.
But since the balloon was already in the parade the handlers should have stopped until they had a clear way around the obstruction or stopped and went to the side of the route. So that the rest of the parade could continue. These balloons are not cheap I hope it was well insured.
