University Offers Class on Lady Gaga

Mathieu Deflem, a professor of sociology at the University of South Carolina, is offering a class on Lady Gaga:

The synopsis for the course reads: "The central objective is to unravel some of the sociologically relevant dimensions of the fame of Lady Gaga".

Prof Deflem, 48, who has met the singer, real name Stefani Germanotta, on a number of occasions, said: "We're going to look at Lady Gaga as a social event. Other people say that Gaga's the new Madonna. I see it more like there's people who have this very individual thing. Frank Zappa had it. Prince had it. Miles Davis had it. Jimi Hendrix had it. And Lady Gaga has it."

yup I agree with Jesss on this one, I really don't understand this gaga obsession but I never got into new kids on the block either. She's a clown that makes lame, forgettable pop music.

I completely agree with both of you.
She makes pop music, she dresses
garrishly. That does not constitute being
mentioned alongside Jimi Hendrix and Miles
Davis. She's a flash in the pan, not a legend.

anybody with a youtube can google her pre-major label days and see that she had no "act" just her performing with a piano. once major label funding came along they created a persona for her. in my opinion because shes not that good looking they had be unconventional. thus she's this crazy wacky girl who wears meat dresses. which in itself is not that clever. (mark ryden anyone???) Obviously Prof Deflem is already behind the curve and calls a spade a club.
