Death by Caffeine

Can you die from taking too much caffeine? The answer is yes - all it takes to kill you is the equivalent of 70 cans of energy drinks:

Apparently, the pack of [powder] caffeine suggested taking no more than 1/16 of a teaspoon, but Bedford reportedly took spoonfuls of the stuff, so I wouldn’t start worrying that your morning coffee addiction might help you end up on the wrong side of living. Bedford reportedly took the dosage of caffeine at a party, and one friend recounts seeing him profusely sweating and throwing up blood only about 15 minutes after the dosage was taken. Pretty horrifying.

I've worked with powdered caffeine in the past and I'm pretty sure there wasn't a massive danger in just working with it; I was 12 years old and wasn't made to wear any safety equipment :\

Anyway I've gotten to the point of serious heart palpitations and visual problems many times during college, so I have no doubt that it's not too difficult to OD on it.

I always remember the Mythbusters where they investigated the science behind the "Diet Coke + Mentos" reaction and when they broke Diet Coke down to its individual ingredients, Adam specifically put on a respirator and warned everyone about the dangers of the raw caffeine he was handling. That was warning enough, for me.
