Stinkers was raised as a pet, and later came to live at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center. Do porcupines make good pets? No. Despite the puppy-like behavior, notice the handler is wearing thick leather gloves. -via Digg

    Finagle,
The porcupine raises the guard hairs when they are excited or scared. It leaves the quills more exposed. Otherwise when it is relaxed the quills are underneathe the longer hair.

It’s sad that they’re not more cuddly though, this one seems so friendly and playful. Really, if it weren’t for the quills, porcupines would probably make awesome pets.

Seems like it feel bad to get petted if you had hard quills instead of soft fur.
