Are double rainbows really that rare in the USA? I see them so often here in south eastern Australia, the last was yesterday, right from our veranda.

I dont think they are so rare. It seems like every one rainbow I see has a second one next to it. I have never seen the double that makes a complete arch.

@ SenorMysterioso - that's true, a complete double arch is rare, but I've seen more than one of them here too. I had a weird rainbow experience a few weeks ago, when a friend and I drove right through the end of one - I didn't think it was possible. We couldn't actually see any colour when we were in it, but we did right up until a few metres from it. We squealed like piglets as we drove through!

See them all the time in Hawaii. If you go to anyplace rainy, you can see rainbows very often. Hawaii is called the Rainbow State with reason.

WOW... I have seen two or three of the full double arc rainbows where I live, in the Thousand Islands region of New York.
