Corvette is Now Kentucky's Official State Sports Car

Corvette lovers rejoice! The Great State of Kentucky has just come to its wits and declared the Chevrolet Corvette as the official sports car of the state:

Despite the Corvette’s popularity, the bill almost didn’t make it. With the General Motors bailout and bankruptcy, the bill was, for a time, buried in red tape. Now with the controversy concerning GM subsiding, the bill was quickly resurrected.

“As home to the Corvette plant in Bowling Green, Kentuckians have long considered the Corvette to be Kentucky’s sports car and a great symbol of Kentucky pride and craftsmanship,” Beshear said. “House Bill 104, which was passed during the 2010 General Assembly, now makes that designation official. It was with great pleasure that I signed HB 104 into law.”

The proclamation by Kentucky may be symbolic, but Chevrolet actually make vehicles that are official cars for heads of states around the world. From an interesting Wikipedia article on Official State Cars, you can see that the presidents of Kosovo and Mexico ride on armored Chevrolet Suburban SUVs.

And for good reason - the minister of the Mexican state of Michoacan Minerva Bautista just survived an ambush orchestrated by the state's own police force:

As dozens of gunmen fired more than 2,700 deafening rounds of ammunition, Minerva Bautista crouched on the floor of her heavily armored SUV, screaming into her radio for backup and thinking one thing: "I know help will come."

But when the minister of security for Michoacan state heard the rounds begin to penetrate her car's armor, sending pieces of metal into her back "like fiery sparks," her faith faltered. And when one of her badly injured bodyguards asked her to take care of his family, she lost hope. (Source)

As a 1981 C3 owner : go Kentucky!

Too bad they're positionning the next Vette on a much more expensive bracket, it's going to loose its 'bang for the bucks' advantage...

Kentucky...NOOOOOOOoooOO! Corvettes may be slick, but they never ran no shine, brothers and sisters. What you need is some old big block mopar (a Charger?!!). Or at least a souped up Chevelle. Duke boys do not approve!
