Patrick Stewart goes from Captain to Knight

Patrick Stewart was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday. No word on if it was for "boldly going where no man has gone before" or just keeping Riker in his place.

“This is an honor that embraces those actors, directors and creative teams who have in these recent years helped fill my life with inspiration, companionship and sheer fun,” said 69-year-old Stewart, who recently returned to the British stage following a long career in Hollywood that included playing Professor Charles Xavier in three “X-Men” films.

Knighthood became a popularity contest years ago. I don't know what it was before that.

He was a Shakespearian actor before he did Star Trek. He was also in I Claudius.

It was Kirk that went where no *man* has gone before. Picard went where no *one* has gone before.
