The effect doesn't work on Internet Explorer, which is undoubtedly the browser used by people who don't know to use Google first, so it's sadly kind of ironic.
It also doesn't work if you have NoScript running so if you want to see the effect you have to click the "Temporarily Allow All This Page" button.

Either way, by the time it got released only Chrome and Safari were able to make it run fast enough so not many people saw it. One year later, with the javascript speed boost of some of the browsers (Firefox 3.6, Opera 10.5, ...) more people is now able to play with it.
