EyeDriver Technology Lets You Steer a Car with Your Eyes

(YouTube Link)

SensoMotoric and the Free University of Berlin have developed a technology that allows a person to steer a car by moving his eyes. A camera tracks the eyes' movements and a computer uses this data to direct the car's steering column. The above video shows a car and driver set up with the gadgetry maneuvering around Tempelhof Airport.

This has to be the most idiotic thing I've ever heard of. So what happens when you glance to the side of the road or at the oncoming truck, does the car veer over and crash? What a stupid idea.

Motorcycle riders are taught not to stare at the edge of the road when rounding a curve, as you tend to steer where you are looking. So I guess this "eye-tracking" function is somewhat already wired into the brain.

I agree with how stupid this invention is. When I am driving, I am looking forward, as well as in my rear-view mirrors and to the edge of the road (to look for woodland creatures that may be feeling suicidal), glancing at my speedometer or clock, etc. How is this invention going to react to these eye movements? And what happens if I glance at the person riding shotgun? Will the car veer sharply to the right then roll?
