Four Women in Space at the Same Time

By Queuebot in Pictures, Science & Tech, Travel on Apr 6, 2010 at 3:38 am

This doesn’t happen every day. Well, OK, it’s never happened before.  As Mission STS-131 blasts off with three women on board they will soon rendezvous with a fourth who arrived at the International Space Station yesterday.  Four women will be in space at the same time – a record so far.  Here are short pithy profiles of each of these remarkable women.

Caldwell Dyson is California born and – consequently perhaps not unsurprisingly – is the lead singer for an all astronaut rock and roll band, Max Q. She is one of the few people on the planet to have celebrated her birthday (number 38 to be exact) in space. She also just happens to be the first astronaut born after Apollo 11 – which we only hope has brought her – and will continue to do so – lots of luck above the atmosphere.
