Kangaroos On the Loose in America

Read about four different sightings of wild kangaroos in the United States. Not surprisingly, some people believe that the mystery animals of North America are paranormal manifestations of some kind. But that might be jumping to conclusions.

Various theories have been put forward in an attempt to explain the bizarre phenomenon, but to date no satisfactory answers have been found. Some commentators suggest that kangaroos in the United States are the shy descendants of animals that, on some unknown occasion in the past, escaped from a circus or zoo. One rational explanation is that they are native marsupials not yet officially discovered or classified; however, the only evolutionary ancestors come from South, not North, America.

Similar to the wallabies that used to be found near the town of Leek in central England. My mum worked in the police station there, and from time to time some shocked motorist would drop in and tell her that he’d just run over a kangaroo. Unfortunately it’s not clear that there are any left.

I wonder if this is just the result of eccentric pet owners dumping their kangaroo when he becomes too much to handle.

Just like the Burmese Python has found a new home in Florida’s Everglades.

I’m sure, if it’s true, that they got there like any other non-native species.

Driving North on HWY One, towards Hearst Castle, and near San Simeon, you can often see wild zebra grazing in the meadows next to the road.

The zebras are the descendants of escapees from Hearst’s private zoo.

Good one!
Could have added that scientists had been pouched to work on the project and asked to hop to it. And in order to get a thumping result, were asked to skip the usual preamble , and box-on.

I heard the one about the bloke who put the animal in his pickup. Only problem is that a kangaroo is a duck.
